The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch tennis team suffered a 6-3 lost to the DuBois Area Lady Beavers Thursday afternoon at the SMAHS tennis courts.
The Lady Dutch, now 2-2 on the season, return to action next Tuesday when they travel to Brockway for a 3:30 p.m. match.
The Elk County Catholic Crusader golf team raised their dual meet record to 2-1 on the season as they defeated the St. Marys Area Flying Dutchmen by a 201-235 score Wednesday at the Leaning Pines Public Golf Course.
The St. Marys Area Flying Dutch golf team opened their dual match season Monday by playing host to the Kane Wolves at Bavarian Hills Golf Course.
The Wolves downed the Dutchmen by a 241-249 score.
The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader tennis team opened their 2014 fall season with a 9-0 shutout victory over the Johnsonburg Ramettes on Tuesday afternoon at Benzinger Park.
The Lady Crusaders are now 1-0 on the season and will be back in action on Thursday when they travel to DuBois Area High School to take on the Lady Beavers in a 3:30 p.m. match.
The Elk County Catholic High School golf team won their first dual match of the season on Friday morning as they hosted the Brockway Rovers in a 9 a.m. contest at the Leaning Pines Public Golf Course. As Brockway only fielded five golfers, only the top five scores counted. The Crusaders won 217-275.
The Crusaders will be back in action on Monday when they travel to Punxsutawney to take part in the Punxsutawney Golf Invitational, which is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
Elk County Catholic High School defended their St. Marys-DuBois Golf Challenge title with a perfect score of 24 points on Thursday afternoon at the Bavarian Hills Golf Course.
Finishing in second behind ECC was DuBois Area with 14.5 points. St. Marys Area was third with 11.5 points, and DuBois Central Catholic was fourth with 10 points.
The St. Marys Senior Little League Baseball Senior League All-Stars put together an exciting run, winning the District 10 and Section 1 titles, and reaching the Pa. State Tournament, which was held this year at Showers Field in DuBois. Like all good things though, that run came to an end on Friday afternoon as St. Marys was dealt a 6-1 loss by defending state champion Kennett Square (KAU Little League) and were eliminated from the tournament.
The St. Marys Little League Baseball Senior League All-Stars opened play in the Pa. State Tournament on Thursday afternoon at Showers Field in DuBois, taking on Section 3 champion Montoursville. St. Marys was able to keep the game close until the final inning when Montoursville added a few more runs for insurance to claim a 5-1 victory.
The St. Marys American Legion Post 103 squad would have needed to beat undefeated Albion twice on Wednesday afternoon in order to claim the title in this year's Region 8 Tournament, but ended up being overpowered by the host team in the first game and finishing as the runner-up following an 8-0 loss.
The St. Marys American Legion Post 103 team defeated Corry 7-4 on Tuesday afternoon in an elimination game in the Region 8 Tournament, and then handed Millcreek their second loss, 6-5, later that evening to advance to the final day of the Region 8 Tournament, which is being held at Northwestern High School in Albion.
Today's action will see undefeated Albion taking on French Creek Valley at 10 a.m. with the winner meeting St. Marys at 1 p.m.
