The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch softball team saw their record slip to 8-4 on the season as they lost a 6-3 weather shortened game Friday to Central Mountain at the SMAHS softball field.
May 9th
It rained off and on throughout the day on Thursday, and the question of whether or not the rain would hold off long enough for the Elk County Catholic Crusaders and Brockway Rovers to get in all their matches in the District 9 Class AA team championship at DuBois Area High School only added to the exciting atmosphere as ECC edged Brockway 3-2 to repeat as District 9 Class AA team champions.
The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders captured the Elk County Girls' Track and Field Championship Thursday at the Elk County Meet held at Johnsonburg. Only four points separated the three girls' squads. Elk Catholic won with a total of 65 points. Johnsonburg was second with 62 and St. Marys was third with 61.
The St. Marys Area Flying Dutch won the Elk County Boys' Track and Field Championship Thursday afternoon at the championship meet held at the Johnsonburg Track and Field complex with 82 points. Elk Catholic was second with 59 while Johnsonburg finished with 48.
Elk County Catholc softball took a big early lead and was able to take an 8-2 win over Johnsonburg Thursday afternoon at Knothole Area Recreational Park.
May 6th
ECC head tennis coach Nick Caggiano recently expressed the hope that, by the time his current sophomore players Drew Meyer and Alan Brennen were seniors, they might find themselves facing off for the District 9 Class AA singles title. On Monday Meyer and Brennen exceeded his expectations and achieved that goal as sophomores, working their way through the Class AA bracket to set up an all ECC final where Meyer emerged victorious 6-0, 6-1.
The St. Marys Area Flying Dutch baseball team split a doubleheader Monday afternoon with the Punxsutawney Chucks at Berwind Park. The Chucks were the home team in the first game which they won by a 16-1 score in four innings. The Dutch took the nightcap by a 5-4 score. St. Marys was the home team in that game.
The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders had the winning run on base in the bottom of the seventh, but were unable to put together the hits to get that runner home and ended up coming up short 5-3 to Curwensville in a game played at Benzinger Park.
May 5th
The Elk County Catholic Crusader baseball team captured the 2013 Elk County Baseball Tournament crown by defeating the Johnsonburg Rams by a 5-1 score Saturday afternoon at Berwind Park.
The St. Marys Area Flying Dutchmen doubled their win total for the season on Saturday morning by hanging on for a 5-4 victory over the Ridgway Elkers in the consolation game of the Elk County Baseball Tournament at Berwind Park.
