CLARION - The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders won the District 9-A consolation game Saturday by defeating the Kane Lady Wolves by a 47-25 score.
The Lady Crusaders will now take on Southern Fulton, the District 5 champion, on Saturday at a time and site to be announced. Kane will take on Vincentian, the District 7 champion, also on Saturday at a site and time to be announced.
CLARION - The Elk County Catholic Crusaders put in a strong performance on Saturday afternoon in the District 9 boysâ€™ Class A consolation game at Clarion Universityâ€™s Tippin Gymnasium, going up by 17 at one point early in the fourth quarter before fending off a late rally by Clarion-Limestone to come away with a 77-66 victory.
ECC will meet Clarion-Limestone in consolation game
CLARION - The Johnsonburg Rams advanced to the District 9-A championship game by defeating the Elk County Catholic Crusaders by a 42-36 score last night at Clarion Universityâ€™s Waldo Tippin Gymnasium in the 9-A semifinals.
Johnsonburg will meet the Ridgway Elkers for the District 9-A championship on Saturday at Clarion University at a time to be announced by the District 9 committee. Ridgway defeated the Clarion-Limestone Lions by a 57-40 score in the other semifinal played at Clarion.
ECC to meet Kane in consolation game
CLARION - The Clarion Area Lady Bobcats defeated the Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders by a 47-41 score last night in the District 9-A semifinal game played at Clarion University.
The Lady Bobcats will now meet the Keystone Lady Panthers for the District 9 championship on Saturday at Clarion University. Keystone defeated Kane 58-51 in the other semifinal. The Lady Crusaders will take on the Kane Lady Wolves in the District 9-A consolation game. The date, site and time of that game will be announced.
SMA sending seven wrestlers to NW Regional
CLARION - St. Marys Area wrestler Joe McLaughlin won the District 9-AAA 182-pound weight class championship Saturday at the District 9-AAA Individual Championships held at Clarion Universityâ€™s Waldo Tippin Gymnasium.
The Dutchmen of coach Dominic Surra will be sending seven wrestlers to the AAA Northwest Regional Tournament scheduled for Friday and Saturday at the Altoona Area High School Field House.
BRADFORD - The St. Marys Area swim and dive team proved that they can rise to the occasion on Friday night when the Dutchmen captured the District 9 Swim & Dive Championship crown at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradfordâ€™s Duke Aquatic Center. The Lady Dutch finished third in the field of five teams.
RIMERSBURG â€“Â A poster board hanging on the wall in the gymnasium at Union High School reads "We love the game because every dribble, shot, or pass is an opportunity for disaster or glory." The former was true for the #2 seeded Union Knights on Friday evening as they struggled to get any momentum going and saw their season come to an end, while the latter was true for the #7 seeded Elk County Catholic Crusaders as they led all the way to take a 59-38 win and advance to the semifinals of the District 9 Class A playoffs.
St. Marys eliminates Clearfield 59-48
HYDE - The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch basketball team advanced to the District 9-AAA championship game by defeating the Clearfield Lady Bisons 59-48 last night at the Clearfield Area High School. The championship game is scheduled for Saturday, March 3 at Clarion Universityâ€™s Waldo Tippin gymnasium at a time to be announced.
The Lady Dutch will meet the winner of tonightâ€™s Punxsutawney at Bradford game.
The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders jumped out to an early lead against the Port Allegany Lady Gators on Thursday evening in a District 9 quarterfinal game at ECCHS, and continued to pull away to take a 50-24 victory.
Elk Catholic coach Ken Pistner credited the team's good start with being very important to their overall success on the evening.
ST. MARYS - The diving portion of the 2012 District 9 Swim & Diving Championships was held on Thursday evening at the SMAHS natatorium. The Lady Dutch and Dutchmen were well-represented, with six of the 13 divers from the participating teams of Clearfield, DuBois and St. Marys.Â
