St. Marys Area senior Kayla Hoohuli signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball at Canisius College in Buffalo, N.Y. Kayla is the daughter of Dan and Leona Hoohuli.
Hoohuli led her high school team to their third straight District 9-AAA championship in 2009-2010 as a junior. She averaged 30.3 points per game to go along with 8.8 rebounds per game, 7.3 steals per game and 4.4 assists per game.

The first annual Big Spring Road Race was held Saturday, Oct. 30, at the ball fields in Toby and was an out-and-back course to the Big Spring on scenic back roads.
Even though this race was billed as the toughest 10K in western Pa., runners eagerly showed up to take on the challenge of the course, as this was a benefit race with all proceeds from going to Connor Bobik.
Ben Huey was the top male finisher in 41:28, while Jennifer Tamburlin was the top female finisher in 51:05.

The local cross country runners fared very well at Saturdayâ€™s PIAA cross country championships, held at Parkview Cross Country Course in Hershey.
Elk County Catholicâ€™s Kennedy Weisner placed second and Harley Thompson placed third in their respective Class AA championships, while St. Marys Areaâ€™s Adair Gennocro was third in the AA girlsâ€™ race.
The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders volleyball squad finished second in the District 9-A Volleyball Tournament held on Saturday at the St. Marys Area High Schoolâ€™s â€śDutch Ovenâ€ť to earn a spot in the PIAA Regional Tournament on Saturday. The Lady Crusaders, who will be competing in Pool C, will be the No. 2 team out of District Nine and will play at Clarion High School on Saturday against the District 6 and 10 champions, along with the WPIAL runner-up.
CLARION - The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch volleyball team closed out their season Saturday by finishing in second place at the District 9 Class AA final four held at Clarion Area High School.
The tournament opened with the Punxsutawney Lady Chucks handing the Kane Lady Wolves a 3-0 loss in games of 25-12, 25-20 and 25-23.
St. Marys and Kane met in the second match of the day, with St. Marys coming out on top 3-2, 25-18, 25-20, 22-25, 20-25 and 15-12.
The third and final match, which decided the District 9-AA title, went to Punxsutawney 3-0, 25-17, 25-17 and 25-11.
The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders volleyball team kept their record clean on Thursday evening, defeating the Otto-Eldred Lady Terrors by a 3-1 score in the quarterfinals of the District 9-A Volleyball Tournament. The Lady Crusaders ran their slate to 14-0 on the season as they defeated the Lady Terrors 25-14, 23-25, 25-14 and 25-14 in a match held at the Aaron J. Straub Gym on the Elk Catholic campus.
DuBOIS - The Karns City Lady Gremlins edged the Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders by a 1-0 score Thursday night at the DuBois Area High School field for the District 9 Class A championship.
Karns City will now take on the third-place team from District 7, either Springdale or Greensburg Central Catholic, on Tuesday, Nov. 9, at a site and time to be announced.
Last nightâ€™s contest saw the two teams battle to a 0-0 tie at the half.
BROCKWAY - The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader soccer team advanced to the District 9 Class A championship with a 1-0 victory over the DuBois Central Lady Cardinals in a match played at Frank Varischetti Field in Brockway.
The Lady Crusaders will take on the Karns City Lady Gremlins Thursday evening at 6 p.m. at the DuBois Area High School field for the District 9 title.
