With two outs in the top of the seventh of the PIAA Class A Western Final at Rich Kuntz Memorial Field in Punxsutawney, the Bishop McCort Crushers had a runner on third and their own pitcher, Brad Coleman, at the plate. All Coleman, who had spent the game in a pitchers' duel with Schlimm, needed was to reach base safely and the game would be tied. ECC had held a 1-0 advantage since the fourth inning, but the Crushers had left men stranded in all but the sixth.
Â ECC head coach Fr. Eric Vogt notched his 100th win on Thursday evening as the Crusaders kept their undefeated season alive, walking off 10-0 in five innings against the Carmichaels Mighty Mikes in a PIAA Class A quarterfinal contest played at Jack Critchfield Park at Slippery Rock University.
The Springfield Delco Cougars ended the St. Marys Area Lady Dutch softball team's season Thursday afternoon at Jan M. Hutchinson Field at Bloomsburg University by a 7-0 score in the quarterfinal round of the PIAA Class AAA tournament.

It might not have been pretty, but the Elk County Catholic Crusaders kept their undefeated season alive with a 3-2 victory over Sewickley Academy on Mondzay afternoon to advance to the PIAA Class A quarterfinals.
The Elk County Catholic Crusaders came up with eight runs on seven hits and four walks in the home half of the fifth inning to capture the District 9 Class A baseball championship over the Cranberry Berries by a 13-3 score.
The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch successfully defended their District 9 Class AAA championship Tuesday afternoon at Brockway High School by defeating the Punxsutawney Lady Chucks by an 9-0 score.
The Elk County Catholic Crusader baseball team waited until the last moment Tuesday afternoon to tie the game with DuBois Central at 3-all in the bottom of the seventh inning, then got a single from Dan Singer to score Dan Stauffer in the eighth inning to send the Crusaders to the District 9-A championship game with a 4-3 victory.
Headed into the bottom of the seventh inning with a 4-1 lead, St. Marys Area looked set to pull off an upset of top seeded Punxsutawney to claim the D9 Class AAA baseball title. The Chucks had other plans though and took advantage of a few miscues to tie the game and send it into extra innings. From there, the Dutchmen tried again to seal the victory as they pulled ahead 5-4 in the top of the ninth, only to see the Chucks come right back and walk off for the 6-5 win in the bottom of the inning.
