Crusaders use strong second half to beat Chucks 72-50

After a flat first 16 minutes of play, the Elk County Catholic Crusaders came out in the second half to outscore the Punxsutawney Chucks 31-16 on their way to a 72-50 District 9 League victory at the ECCHS gym Tuesday night.

The St. Marys Area Flying Dutch basketball team held on for a 59-57 non-league win over the Brockway Rovers Monday night at the SMAHS Dutch Oven.

Dutchmen edge Bradford Owls 73-72 in overtime

Prior to Friday night's game against the Bradford Owls, the St. Marys Area Flying Dutchmen had been on the road so far all season aside from their pair of games last week in the Elk County Holiday Basketball Tournament. Perhaps to make up for lost time, they treated fans to a little bit of everything in what was arguably their real regular season home opener.

Lady Crusaders down Sheffield Lady Wolverines to remain undefeated

The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader basketball team remained unbeaten on the year as they handed the Sheffield Lady Wolverines a 68-19 Allegheny Mountain League North Division loss Friday night at the ECCHS gym.

Salinas leads the way for the Dutch matmen at Chambersburg

The St. Marys Area Flying Dutch wrestling team visited the Chambersburg Area High School for the first annual Trojan Wars Holiday Tournament on Dec. 27 and 28.
The Flying Dutchman placed seven wrestlers in the top eight of their respective weight classes.
Leading the way for the Dutchmen was D.J. Salinas coming from his fourth seed to claim the championship at 220 pounds.

Dutchmen top Rams 54-44 in consolation

The St. Marys Area Flying Dutchmen picked up their first home victory of the season playing as the visitors in the SMAHS Dutch Oven on Saturday afternoon. After a close first half, the Dutch were able to open up a little breathing room against the Johnsonburg Rams in the second half and held on for a 54-44 win in the Elk County Boys' Basketball Holiday Tournament consolation game.

Lady Dutch defeat Ridgway in consolation game

St. Marys girls basketball picked up its first win of the season with a 49-32 victory over Ridgway Saturday afternoon in the girls consolation game of the Elk County Holiday Tournament held at St. Marys Area High School.

Ridgway Elkers beat Crusaders in OT for boys County title

The Ridgway Elkers captured the 2014 Elk County Boys Holiday Basketball Tournament Saturday night at the St. Marys Area High School Dutch Oven by defeating the Elk County Catholic Crusaders by a 37-33 score in overtime.

Lady Crusaders defend Holiday Tournament crown

Macy Neureiter maximized her points from the outside Saturday night just like ECC's senior class maximized their performance at the Elk County Holiday Tournament.
Neureiter finished with 20 points and six three-pointers as Elk County Catholic won 47-26 over Johnsonburg in the girls championship game of the tournament Saturday night at St. Marys Area High School.

Crusaders reach title game with win over Dutchmen

The Elk County Catholic Crusaders will meet the Ridgway Elkers tonight at 8 p.m. at the St. Marys Area High School in the Elk County Boys Holiday Basketball championship.
The Crusaders defeated the St. Marys Area Flying Dutchmen by a 71-56 score to reach the finals while the Elkers defeated the Johnsonburg Rams by a 47-36 score. Johnsonburg and St. Marys will meet this afternoon at 4:30 p.m. in the consolation game.
