The NRA smallbore hunting rifle championship took place Monday afternoon at the Ridgway Rifle Club smallbore range as part of the NRA National Silhouette Championships.
The overall team winner was "Mexico 1" with a score of 202. Team members are Gabriel Guerra (Monterrey, Mexico), Angelica Kuess Davila (Laredo, Texas), and Enrique Kuess Jr. (Laredo, Texas).
The overall runner-up was team "B.A.S.S." with a score of 201. Team members are Susan Peery (Churchton, Mass.), Laura Goetsch (Whites Creek, Tenn.) and Cathy Winstead-Severin (Joplin, Mo.)
The smallbore standard rifle team championships were held Monday at the Ridgway Rifle Club as part of the NRA National Silhouette Championships.
The overall team champions were "B.A.S.S." That team finished with a total score of 207. Team members are Susan Peery (Churchton, Mass.), Cathy Winstead-Severin (Joplin, Mo.) and Laura Goestch (Whites Creek, Tenn.) Winstead-Severin had a 77 to lead the team.
BRADFORD â€“ Rain showers throughout the day on Saturday did little to deter a large crowd from gathering at Parkway Field in Bradford for this yearâ€™s Big 30 Don Raabe Charities Classic All Star Football Game. Under the direction of the Kane Area High School coaching staff of head coach Jason Barner and assistant coaches Rick Fisher, Todd Silfies and Jim Sirianni, the Pennsylvania squad romped to a 28-3 victory over New York.
MT. JEWETT - The St. Marys Little League Baseball Senior all-stars lost a 14-5 contest to the Crawford County Mets in the finals of the Section 1 Tournament played at Mt. Jewett Saturday afternoon.
Crawford County advances to the state tournament, scheduled for July 27 through Aug. 1 at Emporium.
St. Marys held a 5-4 lead going into the sixth inning when Crawford County exploded for nine runs on four hits, five walks and two errors to take a 13-5 lead.
The St. Marys Little League Senior all-star team advanced to the finals of the Section 1 tournament with a 6-4 victory over Harborcreek Friday night.
St. Marys will now meet Crawford County this afternoon at 3 p.m. at Mt. Jewett for the right to advance to the state tournament scheduled for Emporium. If a second game is necessary, it will be played immediately following the 3 p.m. game.
A single by St. Marysâ€™ Gabe Kraus in the bottom of the seventh inning scored Hayden Tettis to give the St. Marys team a 4-3 victory over DuBois last night at Memorial Park in the finals of the winnerâ€™s bracket of the District 10 Tournament.
St. Marys tied the game at 3-all in the home half of the sixth inning to force the extra frame. DuBois led 3-0 going into the bottom of the sixth.
St. Marys had five hits in the contest, all singles. Getting those hits were Hayden Tettis, Timmy Wehler, Gabe Kraus (the game winner), Logan Hoffman and Alex Oâ€™Neill.
The Ridgway softball 13- and 14-year-old all-stars lost 7-3 to St. Marys in action Thursday at the Ridgway Little League fields located along Grant Road.
St. Marys took the lead in the first inning. The St. Marys all-stars were designated as the visiting team and Jackie Lenze led off the game with a single. Lenze would eventually score the game's first run on a wild pitch. Rachel Stauffer walked with one out and would score on a Ridgway throwing error to make the lead 2-0 for St. Marys after half an inning.
The St. Marys Little League Softball Minor League All-Stars put up a good fight, but ultimately fell to DuBois 10-9 on Thursday evening in a game that saw the lead change four times.
Rebekka Bauer worked all six innings for St. Marys, giving up eight hits, walking eight and striking out eight. DuBois' Molly Nosker also went the distance, giving up six hits, walking three and striking out 14.
The St. Marys Legion baseball team advanced to the championship series of the Elk County Legion Baseball League by defeating the Bradford Legion two games to none.
St. Marys won the series last night as they defeated Bradford by a 14-5 score in a game played at the Mt. Jewett field.
The St. Marys Little League Baseball 10-11-year-old all-star team opened play in the District 10 Tournament Tuesday night by defeating the Warren squad by a 10-3 score in a game played at Memorial Park.
St. Marys will now play the winner of last nightâ€™s Punxsutawney at DuBois game on Thursday at 6 p.m. at a site to be determined.
St. Marys had six hits in last nightâ€™s game, as Gabe Kraus had a double and a single, Timmy Wehler tripled, Austin Sadosky had two singles and Hayden Tettis singled.
