Sahlee J. Courson

Sahlee J. Courson, 72, of 52 Sabula Lake Rd., DuBois, died Thursday, May 17, 2012 at her residence.
She was born June 19, 1939 in DuBois, the daughter of the late Thomas H. and Agnes Schriner Bowser.
She married Theodore "Ted" Courson, who survives.
She was a homemaker, a member of the First Baptist Church in DuBois and enjoyed hummingbirds and collecting butterflies.

Ruth M. Bauer, 86, of 163 East Oilwell St., St. Marys, died on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at Pinecrest Manor following a lengthy illness.
She was born Dec 5, 1925 in St. Marys, a daughter of the late Ignatius and Gertrude Fritz Feldbauer.
She was married to the late Walter J. Bauer Sr., who preceded her in death in 1956.
Mrs. Bauer was a lifelong resident of the area and a member of Sacred Heart Church. She was a graduate of Central High School, Class of 1943. She devoted her life and love to caring for her children and grandchildren, whom she greatly enjoyed spending time with.

BROOKVILLE – The Elk County Catholic Crusader and Lady Crusader track and field squads competed along with the St. Marys Area Lady Dutch and the Johnsonburg Area Rams and Ramettes in the District 9-AA track and field championships at Brookville Area High School on Friday afternoon.

Wonderling’s walk off home runs gives SMA 2-1 win

Cassie Wonderling’s home run in the home half of the seventh inning gave the St. Marys Area Lady Dutch softball team a 2-1 victory over the Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders Friday afternoon at the SMAHS softball field.
The Lady Dutch got on the board in the fourth inning to take the 1-0 lead. Elk Catholic knotted the game at 1-all with a run in the top of the sixth inning. Elk Catholic left runners stranded at second and third in the top of the seventh. The home half the seventh featured Wonderling’s walk off home run to center field.

Dutchmen rally in sixth inning for 9-3 win over ECC

The St. Marys Area Flying Dutch baseball team erupted for seven runs on four hits and two errors to come from behind to defeat the Elk County Catholic Crusaders by a 9-3 score Friday night at Berwind Park on Senior Night for the Dutchmen.
Elk Catholic led 1-0 after two innings of play. The Dutch scored twice in the third inning for a 2-1 lead. The Crusaders tied the game in the fourth and went up 3-2 in the sixth with a run. St. Marys scored seven times in the home half of the sixth to win the game 9-3.

Jay Twp. Board hesitant to back $220,000 Water Authority project

WEEDVILLE – The Jay Township Board of Supervisors at Thursday's meeting were reluctant to offer guarantees that the township would back an estimated $220,000 in loans for an upcoming Water Authority project.
Water Authority Board Chairman John Friday said in order to secure the loans needed to implement updates to the water treatment plant, the loaner bank is requesting a third party to act as cosigner, guaranteeing the loan would be repaid if the Water Authority were to default.

Collection dates set for Community Nurses Used Book Sale for Hospice

The Community Nurses Used Book Sale for Hospice is less than a month away and donations of old books are currently being sought.
The first collection will be held on Wednesday, May 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the St. Marys Catholic Middle School, with additional collections to follow on Wednesday, May 30 from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, June 1 from 12 to 4 p.m., and Saturday, June 2 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Books will also be accepted on June 4 and 5 all day in the SMCMS cafeteria.

RIDGWAY - At Monday’s meeting of the Elk County Gas Task Force, Conservation District Manager Steve Putt said that Ridgway has been awarded a small educational grant to place awareness signs near public drinking water systems.

Property Tax Rent Rebate Program deadline June 30

ST. MARYS – Eligible homeowners and renters should act now to take advantage of a state property tax/rent reduction program before the June 30 deadline.
In 2006, the Taxpayer Relief Act was signed into law. The act established the Property Tax Relief Fund to enable the use of gaming revenue to reduce property taxes for homeowners.
