The Fox Township supervisors have scheduled their annual budget workshops for Oct. 22, Oct. 29 and Nov. 5 at 4:30 p.m. The adoption of the proposed budget is set for Nov. 7, with the final budget being adopted on Dec. 5, 2012.
Under new business the Fox Township supervisors approved the use of the township backhoe and service truck to conduct repairs at the Fox Twp. Sportsmen's Club shooting range, as well as using a boom mower to mow the hillside.
Live television coverage of the ordination of Bishop Lawrence Thomas Persico revealed a humanity that is already endearing him to the northwest Pennsylvania flock he will now shepherd.Â It was all part of a joyous day on which the 10th man in the 159-year history of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Erie became its new bishop.
Michael R. DeVallance, 41, of 1245 13th St., N.W., Washington, D.C., died Saturday morning, Oct. 6, 2012 at his residence following a short illness.
He was born on Feb. 13, 1971 in Ridgway, son of Robert N. and Joyce Marrone DeVallance of Johnsonburg, who survive.
He resided in the Washington, D.C. area since 1997. He graduated from Johnsonburg Area High School in 1989 and from Clarion University of Pennsylvania in 1995.
Grace J. Sestina, 90, a resident of Silver Creek Terrace, St. Marys, died Saturday evening, Oct. 6, 2012 at Elk Haven Nursing Home.
She was born June 16, 1922 in St. Marys, daughter of the late Michael H. and Barbara A. Schreiber Wolf.
ERIE - A St. Marys woman, Sandra Prechtel, charged with embezzling nearly a million dollars from her employer, Abbott Furnace Company, entered a guilty plea to charges of mail fraud and tax evasion on Friday before a U.S. District Court Judge in Erie.
Now in its 11th year, the annual K-9 Karnival Walk 'n Wag, sponsored by the Elk County Humane Society, is taking place this afternoon at Benzinger Park in St. Marys beginning at 11 a.m. There will be games, prizes and more.

Elizabeth M. (Betty) Gausman, 90, died Thursday evening, Oct. 4, 2012 at Highland View Nursing Home in Brockway, following an illness of the past nine months.
She was born July 15, 1922 in Carman, daughter of the late Joseph P. and Mary F. Oresko Griech.
CLARION - A second-half rally by the St. Marys Area Flying Dutch came up short last night at Clarion Universityâ€™s Memorial Stadium as the Clarion Area Bobcats came away with a 40-28 victory.
The Bobcats took a 33-7 halftime lead only to see the Dutch outscore Clarion by a 21-7 margin in the second half of play.
â€śThe game was lost in the first half but I am very proud of our effort in the second half,â€ť said St. Marys coach Joe Schlimm. â€śWe competed really well in the third and fourth quarters.â€ť
â€śClarion is a very good football team,â€ť added Schlimm.
The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch soccer team overcame an early 1-0 deficit and then held off an attempted rally by the Lady Wolves to claim a 3-2 win on Thursday afternoon at the SMAHS soccer field.
"I think our team is finally finding its rhythm and people are doing their jobs in their positions," said St. Marys Area coach Johanna Schmidt.
