This freshly fallen snow covers the trees along state route 255 south in Elk County. This week a Pacific air flow will result in milder temperatures which are expected to be in the upper 30s/lower 40s with partly sunny/partly cloudy skies. However, this will soon change: Temperatures are expected to dip in mid-January as frigid air moves in from the North Pole.
RIDGWAY - A Ridgway man headed to trial on drug charges filed after state police allegedly uncovered marijuana growing on his Long Level Road property was in Elk County Court last week seeking the suppression of evidence obtained by police in aerial and physical searches of his property and home.
Prior to the start of their recent holiday break, members of the junior and senior classes at Elk County Catholic High School had the opportunity to attend informational sessions with school alumni to learn about various careers from ECC alumni already employed in those areas.
Betty J. Taylor, 60, of 57 Beaver Lane, Kersey, died Saturday evening, Jan. 5, 2013 at the DuBois Regional Medical Center.
She was born Nov. 17, 1952 in Brookville, daughter of the late Walter and Sara Postlewaite Allshouse. On July 8, 1994 in the First Presbyterian Church in Ridgway, she married Joseph L. Taylor Sr., who survives.
She was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of St. Marys Public High School. She was a former employee of Stackpole Carbon Company and Penn Metal Stamping.
Hugh J. Lanzel, 86, of 551 School St., St. Marys, died on Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013 at the Elk Regional Health Center after a brief illness.
He was born March 9, 1926 in St. Marys, son of the late Ralph and Mary Schatz Lanzel. On Oct. 27, 1950 in Maryland, he married Rose Garnic, who survives.
Mr. Lanzel was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Central Catholic High School. He retired in 1986 from the Stackpole Carbon Company. He was a member of the St. Maryâ€™s Church.
Mary Ann Kim of 146 Sugar Hill Rd., St. Marys, died Sunday morning, Jan. 6, 2013, at the Elk Haven Nursing Home.
Mary Ann is survived by a sister, Helen Kim Holland; and by three brothers, George, Martin and Joe Kim.
The 7 a.m. Mass at Queen of the World Church on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013 will be celebrated in Mary Ann Kim's memory. Interment will be at the discretion of the family.
There will be no visitation.

Henrietta C. Feldbauer, 89, of 1153 South Michael Road, St. Marys, died on Friday, Jan. 4, 2013 at Elk Regional Health Center following a brief illness.
She was born May 12, 1923 in St. Marys, a daughter of the late Henry and Clara Friedl Samick.
On July 12, 1942 in St. Mary's Church, she married the late Robert Feldbauer, who preceded her in death on Jan. 3, 1958.
Kenneth E. Burgeson, 77, of 1890 Bucktail Rd., St. Marys, died on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013 at Pinecrest Manor following a lengthy illness.
He was born April 13, 1935 in Ridgway, a son of the late Winifred Schrift Burgeson. On Oct. 6, 1956 in Sacred Heart Church, he married Ilene Leviski Burgeson, who survives.
Nearly a week after winning the Elk County Girls' Holiday Basketball Tournament, the Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders were back in action as they defeated the Sheffield Lady Wolverines 61-39 at ECC on Friday night.
The St. Marys Area Flying Dutch basketball team suffered their first District 9 League loss of the season Friday night as the Bradford Owls held on to defeat the Dutch by a 51-43 score at the SMAHS Dutch Oven.
