Mary "Louise" Coccimiglio, 97, of Pine Avenue, Force, died early Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at home following a brief illness.
She was born Jan. 22, 1914 in Brockway, daughter of the late Benjamine and Rosina (Porco) Caruso.
She married Anthony Francis Coccimiglio, who preceded her in death on Sept. 28, 1979.
She was born and raised in Brockway, and lived for the past 78 years in Force. She was a graduate of Snyder Township High School. She was a homemaker, wife, and mother and for 10 years ran a general store in Weedville.
Maurice Falcettoni, 98, a resident of Elk Haven Nursing Home and a former resident of Dagus Mines, died Monday, March 14 at the Elk Regional Health Center after a brief illness.
He was born July 26, 1912 in Dagus Mines, son of the late Alexander (Alex) and Lena Gornati Falcettoni.
He was a lifelong resident of Dagus Mines and attended Kersey schools. He was the owner of a store in Dagus Mines and also worked as a coal miner.
Darcy S. Schneider, 54, of 150 First Ave. Apt. B, Johnsonburg, died on Monday, March 14, 2011 at Shadyside Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Pittsburgh following a lengthy illness.
She was born on Sept. 23, 1956 in St. Marys, the daughter of the late Edward and Ann Shannon Robuck.
She resided in Johnsonburg all her life and graduated from Johnsonburg High School in 1976.
She was a member of Holy Rosary Church, American Legion Post 501 in Johnsonburg and the Johnsonburg Moose. She loved animals and rooting for the Cincinnati Bengals.

Doris M. Tahara, 86, of 225 Parade Street, died unexpectedly Sunday, March 13, 2011 at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh following an illness of the past few days.
She was born September 3, 1924 in St. Marys, a daughter of the late Arthur "Stub" and Bertha Tyler Fritz.
On May 25, 1946 in Cresco, she married the late Dr. Charles T. Tahara, who was a noted urologist in the area. He preceded her in death on November 23, 1966.
William R. Penfield Sr., 87, formerly of Ridgway and Kane, died Monday morning, March 14, 2011, at Elk Regional Health Center following a brief illness.
He was born Oct. 1, 1923, in Brockway, son of the late William J. and Dorothy (Woods) Penfield.
He married Erma Jean Griffith on Jan. 19, 1946. She preceded him in death on May 17, 1974.

Curves of St. Marys is inviting the public to a 24-hour event that will help raise funds for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. The fitness center's "Purple Power" Relay team is sponsoring the event and will participate in this summer's annual walk to support funding for cancer research, raise awareness of the disease, honor survivors and remember those who have lost their battle.
Peggi Yeager, owner/manager of the fitness center, said the event will run from noon on Friday, March 18 to noon on Friday, March 19.
Bids for the ATA transit center, which will be located in the currently-under-construction parking garage on Depot Street, are scheduled to be opened today, according to Gabe Uljon, Director of Facilities for ATA.
"The contractor will be selected after a review of the bids opened [today.] Selection of a contractor is contingent upon a review of each bid for cost and compliance requirements," Uljon said.
On Monday evening, local resident Marilyn Secco questioned members of the St. Marys Area School District Board of Directors for a second time regarding the playing of the national anthem at various school district-sponsored events, including athletics.
Secco initially aired her concern on the issue at a January school board meeting. At that time, she questioned why the national anthem was not played during junior high and elementary sporting events, stating she believed it should be played at all grade level events in order to provide a learning opportunity for students.
The St. Marys Area School District Board of Directors approved several personnel issues during Monday's regular meeting.
All employment recommendations are provisional for 30 days pending receipt of Act 151 clearance documentation.
Resignations were approved for Connie Timashenka of St. Marys, as the Supervisor of Special Education, effective April 1, 2011; Kenneth Vogt of St. Marys as a tutor at St. Marys Area Middle School, effective March 11, 2011; and Dorothy Weichman of St. Marys as a classroom aide at South St. Marys Street Elementary, effective June 3, 2011.

SMA finishes season with outstanding 22-2 record
CLARION - The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch basketball team was eliminated from the PIAA Class AAA tournament on Saturday by a 69-23 score by the New Castle Hurricanes. The first-round game was played at Clarion University’s Waldo Tippin Gymnasium.
The Hurricanes jumped out to an early lead in the contest, opening a 24-4 advantage after the first eight minutes of play. In the second quarter, they outscored the Lady Dutch by a 27-8 margin to take a 51-12 halftime lead.
