St. Boniface Catholic School's gala on Saturday was well-attended, with students and their families, faculty and clergy, and parishioners of St. Boniface Church coming together to celebrate their school in what will be an annual event.
"We had our big 125th anniversary event last year, and we want to continue having a yearly dinner," said Debra Nunamaker, second grade teacher at St. Boniface for the past five years.
A crowd of nearly 100 people gathered forÂ RoseMarie Terenzio's "Fairy Tale Interrupted" book signing on Friday evening at the St. Marys Public Library, with all proceeds from book sales benefitting the library.
The event marked the kickoff of the library's 100th anniversary, which is being celebrated in July. In May the library plans to roll out their new e-book program as well, according to Scarlette Corbin, library executive director.
Donald J. Vogt, 63, of 224 Pear Rd., St. Marys, died unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, April 26, 2012.
He was born Sept. 9, 1948, a son of the late James Vogt and Emma Petrucelli Vogt of St. Marys.
Donny was a lifelong resident of the area and attended St. Marys Area schools.Â He was a Vietnam veteran, having served in the Army 82nd Sig Battalion Airborne Division.Â He enjoyed hunting, ï¬shing and riding his motorcycle.Â
James A. Doan, 64, of 1769 Bucktail Rd., St. Marys, died Sunday morning, April 29, 2012, at his residence after a lengthy illness.
He was born May 20, 1947, in Little Rock, Ark., son of the late Loyce E. and Nanna M. Niesler Doan.
He was a graduate of Aviation High School in Redondo Beach, Calif., and had resided in St. Marys since 1995.
On Nov. 14, 1966, in California, he married Sheryl J. Parsons, who survives.
BENEZETTE âÂ Area fire crews spent several hours battling a fire that burned several acres along SR 555, east of Benezette, on Sunday afternoon.
According to Elk County 911 email alerts, the Jay Township Volunteer Fire Department was called out to the area of 10461 Route 555 between Hulett Street and Summerson Road at 3:40 p.m. The Fox Township Volunteer Fire Department and Crystal Fire Department from St. Marys were both called to the scene at 4:12 p.m.
The City of St. Marys Shade Tree Commission began Arbor Day celebrations on Friday with a Tree City USA ceremony on Depot Street in downtown St. Marys.
Roman P. "Romie" Kronenwetter, 89, of 430 Maple St., St. Marys, died Friday, April 27, 2012 at the Elk Haven Nursing Home.
He was born Oct. 3, 1922 in St. Marys, son of the late Benedict J. and Anna Rose (Wehler) Kronenwetter.
On Sept. 2, 1950, in the St. Mary's Catholic Church, he married Genevieve (Sue) McIntyre Kronenwetter, who survives.

The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch softball team knocked the Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders from the ranks of the undefeated Friday afternoon as they handed the Lady Crusaders a 3-0 loss at Benzinger Park.
Through four innings, the game was a real pitchersâ duel between St. Marys Areaâs Rachel Ginther and Elk County Catholicâs Taylor Schlimm. The Lady Dutch were able to score all of their runs in the top of the fifth inning on four hits, one of which was a two-run home run by Savanah Krivonyak.
