The St. Marys area has a proud history of manufacturing, especially the production of powdered metal products for use in other industries. On Feb. 24, which is National Tortilla Chip Day, it seems apt to look more in-depth at MexAmerica Foods LLC, another local manufacturing company that is focused on making quality products, albeit edible ones.
Residents who dispose of their old computers at the county's monthly electronics collection can rest assured that the devices are being destroyed and their data is not accessible by any third parties. Bekki Titchner, recycling/solid waste coordinator, discussed this concern during the Solid Waste Authority's Tuesday afternoon meeting.
Titchner also informed authority members about a new group called Computer Games 4 Fun, which she indicated recently approached her about obtaining computers that had been dropped off to be recycled.

With a new state budget hopefully just around the corner, officials at the North Central Pennsylvania Regional Planning and Development Commission discussed the possibility of alterations to work practices as the entity progresses.
For Joe Demott, a McKean County commissioner and chairman of the commission's board of directors, change is needed as the committee moves ahead.
RIDGWAY - Jack McEntire of Selah, Wash. spoke to fellow chainsaw carvers Wednesday morning touting the new Sioux carving bar and the need for an arts television channel as part of the daily seminars offered at Appalachian Arts Studio in Ridgway.
Joining McEntire in his presentation was Dave Tremko of Chugiak, Alaska.
The seminars are being offered in conjunction with the 12th annual Ridgway Chainsaw Carvers Rendezvous.
The Elk County Commissioners donated a 20-gallon soup kettle valued at $2,000 to The Sacred Heart Parish's Social Committee Wednesday afternoon. Co-chairpersons Helene Burdick and Linda Brunner were at the Courthouse Annex Building to receive the kettle.
“I can't believe we are getting this,” Brunner said.
The soup kettle was being stored in the Elk County Prison for a number of years and at one time was put up for bid.
The Elk County Catholic Crusaders opened play in the District 9 Class A boys’ basketball tournament with a 67-51 victory over the Oswayo Valley Green Wave Wednesday night at the ECCHS gym.
The Crusaders will now meet the Coudersport Falcons Friday night at the ECCHS gym. Coudersport defeated the Northern Potter Panthers last night by a 49-33 score. The start time is tentatively scheduled for 7 p.m.
The St. Marys Area Flying Dutch wrestlers received two top seeds for Saturday’s District 9 Class AAA individual tournament being held at Clarion University’s Waldo Tippin Gymnasium.
Receiving the top seeds were Joe McLaughlin at 189 pounds and Kevin Hoy at 285 pounds.
Those receiving second seeds were Evan Smith at 119 pounds and Jimmy Antonelli 215 pounds.
Two St. Marys wrestlers received third seeds. They were Alex Coudriet at 125 pounds and Sam Miller at 140 pounds.
Receiving fourth seeds were Bill Gabor at 130 pounds, Allan Gursky at 145 pounds and Michael Brennen at 160 pounds.
The 2011 District 9 League Swimming and Diving Championships will be hosted this weekend at the SMAHS Natatorium. The weekend will feature swimming and diving talent from the District, which includes Bradford, Brookville, Clearfield, DuBois as well as the hosting Dutchmen and Lady Dutch squads.

In only its second year, the South St. Marys Street Elementary Mini Relay for Life succeeded in raising nearly $5,600 for the American Cancer Society.
Approximately 100 students participated in this year's mini relay, held in the school's gymnasium on Friday, Feb. 11.
During their meeting on Monday evening, members of city council voted to approve awarding the bid for resurfacing paved roads throughout the city later this year to HRI Inc. of State College in the amount of $911,388.52.
