Ralph "Sonny" Meloni, 79, of 278 Elm St., Weedville, died at Elk Regional Health Center in St. Marys on the morning of Thursday, Sept.13, 2012.
He was born Sept. 17, 1932 in Force, a son of the late Mario L. and Ruby Taylor Meloni.
On Sept. 8, 1956 in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Force, he married Neomi D. Walters Meloni, who survives.
The St. Marys Area Dutch soccer team pulled off a hard-fought 1-0 win against Elk County Catholic on Thursday afternoon at the SMAHS soccer field.
The Dutch victory came almost a week after the two teams met for the first time this season in the opening round of the Elk County Boys' Soccer Tournament. Elk Catholic won that contest 2-0 and went on to win the tournament, while St. Marys finished in last place. Since that tournament though, the two teams' fortunes have changed. St. Marys has now won both of their games since then and continues to improve with each contest.
The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader volleyball team raised their dual match record to 4-0 on the season with a 3-0 win over the Brockway Lady Rovers on Thursday night at the ECCHS gymnasium.
Elk Catholic won the first set 25-13, took the second set 25-7, and finished off with a 25-15 win in the third set.
The Ridgway Lady Elker volleyball team handed the St. Marys Area Lady Dutch a 3-0 setback last night at the SMAHS Dutch Oven.
The Lady Elkers won the first set by a 28-26 score. They took the second set 25-15 and won the third set 25-13 to win the match.
Travis J.Â Young,Â 38, of Clearfield, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012 at his residence.
Born on March 7, 1974 in Clearfield, he was the son of Thomas L. and Judith A. (Mohr) Young of Clearfield, who survive.
Travis attended Clearfield High School.Â He enjoyed hunting, fishing, collecting coins and movies. He was Baptist by faith.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister, Beth O'Shell of Syracuse, N.Y.; two nephews, Wallace Kowalski of Seguinn, Texas, and Sean O'Shell of Syracuse, N.Y.; and a niece, Shannon O'Shell of Syracuse, N.Y.
MECKLENBURG CO., N.C. - Following his apprehension in Matthews, N.C. on Wednesday, Richard A. Danz, 47, of St. Marys, wanted by authorities in connection with felony charges alleging he defrauded Elk County businesses and private investors, was charged as a fugitive and released Thursday on $30,000 bond in a Mecklenburg County, N.C. district court.

ST. MARYS - The St. Marys City Police report that former Elk County Humane Society treasurer and financial advisor Richard A. Danz was taken into custody on Wednesday, Sept. 12 in North Carolina.
Criminal charges have been filed against Danz, 47, of 376 Walnut St., St. Marys, in connection with the alleged theft of funds through his position with the organization, as well as charges alleging he defrauded clients of investments made through his private tax preparation business.
JONES TWP. - Representatives from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Pittsburgh District, provided an update on the ongoing East Branch Safety Project during a stakeholders' meeting held Wednesday morning at the lake.
Numerous personnel from local and state agencies, as well as several property owners, attended the meeting in an effort to stay abreast of the project.
