Gary L. Crosby, 69, of 11453 Rt. 120, Emporium, died at his residence on Monday night, July 16, 2012, surrounded by his family.
He was born Sept. 30, 1942 in St. Marys, Â a son of Lillian Nordberg Crosby of Emporium and the late Ivan Crosby.
On Dec. 19, 1970 in Emporium, he married Linda Taylor Crosby, who survives.
Members of the St. Marys City Council approved a resolution pertaining to procedures and promotions within the St. Marys Police Department.
City Manager Dave Greene explained that City Solicitor Tom Wagner met with St. Marys Police Chief Todd Caltagarone along with members of the Civil Service Commission, during which time the commission introduced procedures in determining which personnel are eligible for promotions. Such procedures were never before in place.
Beginning today at noon, tickets may be reserved for the 2012 St. Marys Area Chamber of Commerce Wing Fling taking place Friday, Aug. 17 in downtown St. Marys.
Now in its 11th year, the Wing Fling has become a popular event attracting upwards of 500 attendees. Crowds gather in the Market Street area from 6-9:30 p.m., where they sample some of the area's tastiest wings and enjoy entertainment by a local band.
"The 2012 St. Marys Area Chamber of Commerce Wing Fling looks to be the social event of the year for the local area," said Greg Stauffer, Wing Fling committee chairman.
The results of a recent fundraiser to benefit families who take their children to the Cleft-Craniofacial Center at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh-UPMC left the planners smiling, and will help bring smiles to more children in western Pennsylvania.
"An Afternoon of Smiles and Sunshine," held on May 20 at The Red Fern in St. Marys, brought in funds to help children with cleft palates and other craniofacial conditions and their families with travel expenses and other associated costs while getting treatment.
WILCOX â€“Â The Fox Township American Legion baseball team forced a championship game with Wilcox in the Elk County American Legion Baseball League after a 5-2 victory Monday night at Jones Township Community Park.
The deciding game for the league title and a berth in the Region 8 tournament will be at 5:30 p.m. tonight and will again be at Jones Township Community Park.
Bertha N. Wickett, 80, of St. Marys, died Sunday, July 15, 2012 at Select Specialty Services in Erie.
She was born Oct. 3, 1931, in St. Marys, the daughter of John and Margaret Leightner Brennen. She married Jerome V. Wickett, who predeceased her on Dec. 23, 2010. She resided all of her life in St. Marys. Mrs. Wickett was a member of the Sacred Heart Church. She had been employed at Sylvania for a number of years.
Dorothy Jane Knouse died on Monday, July 9, 2012 at her home in San Antonio, Texas following a brief illness.
She was born on April 19, 1933 in Texas, daughter of the late James and Alice Baxter and daughter-in-law of the late Roland (Tex) and Lavina Knouse of St. Marys.
She married Russell Knouse in 1950 in the chapel at Carswell Air Force Base in Fort Worth, Texas.
The Fox Township Amerian Legion Post 511 baseball team earned a trip to the Elk County League championship game with a hard-fought 8-6 victory over St. Marys on Saturday night at Berwind Park.
John J. "Hunce Caskey, 78, of 616 S. Michael Rd., St. Marys, died Saturday, July 14, 2012 at his residence following a lengthy illness.
He was born Jan. 3, 1934 in St. Marys, son of the late David W. and Isabelle Krieg Caskey Sr. On June 23, 1956, in the St. Mary's Church, he married Sarah A. "Sally" Herzing, who survives.
Mr. Caskey was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of St. Marys High School, Class of 1952. He was a retired employee of Airco Speer, retiring in 1985.
ST. MARYS - The Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal's Unit, St. Marys City Police, and the Crystal Fire Department report conducting an investigation into the origin and cause of a fire that occurred at approximately 4:20 a.m. on Saturday, July 14, 2012, at 137 Lynch Rd. in St. Marys. The fire has been ruled arson. Members of the Crystal Fire Dept. report being called out at at 4:24 a.m. that morning for a reported structure fire with flames showing at the Lynch Road address. Upon arrival, firemen found the structure fully involved in fire.
