The Community Nurses Used Book Sale for Hospice is less than a month away and donations of old books are currently being sought.
The first collection will be held on Wednesday, May 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the St. Marys Catholic Middle School, with additional collections to follow on Wednesday, May 30 from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, June 1 from 12 to 4 p.m., and Saturday, June 2 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Books will also be accepted on June 4 and 5 all day in the SMCMS cafeteria.
RIDGWAY - At Mondayâ€™s meeting of the Elk County Gas Task Force, Conservation District Manager Steve Putt said that Ridgway has been awarded a small educational grant to place awareness signs near public drinking water systems.

Sandra L. Wagner, 47, of 351 1/2 Stackpole Street, St. Marys, died unexpectedly at her home on Sunday, May 13, 2012.
She was born Dec 25, 1964 in Bristol, PA, a daughter of the late Kenneth W. and Duretta Merfen Hess.
Sandy was employed at Pinecrest Manor for more than 15 years. She was a member of the Eagles. She enjoyed spending time with her dog, Harley and her family, especially her nieces and nephews.
John J. Irwin, 89, of 959 Hickory Rd., St. Marys, died at Pinecrest Manor on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 following a brief illness.
He was born June 23, 1922 in Empire, Calif., a son of the lateÂ William and Cecelia Cummings Irwin.
In 1970 at St. Catherine's Church in Martinas, Calif., he married Ruth Schlimm Irwin, who survives.
Mr. Irwin was a member of the Queen of the World Church.Â He served in the U.S. Army during WWII.Â He worked at Shell Oil Company in Martinas, Calif., for many years.Â
WEEDVILLE - With the Act 13 impact fee legislation for gas and oil drilling signed into law in February, municipalities like Jay Twp. which stand to collect revenue under the legislation, are still sorting out what will be done with the funds and how much they can expect to receive. The disbursement of potential impact fee revenue and which municipal bodies would benefit was a topic of discussion at Thursday's meeting of the Jay Township Board of Supervisors.
