ST. MARYS - The Elk-Cameron Board of Realtors recently gifted the Bodien family of Ridgway with various household goods to replace items destroyed in an Aug. 13 house fire at their Fremont Avenue home.

Fox Twp. addresses business items

In addressing unfinished business matters, the Fox Township supervisors discussed the request from Jay Township to form a partnership in sharing a Code Enforcement Officer and Sewage Enforcement Officer. Jay supervisors noted they have three other proposals to review, but were awaiting Fox Twp.'s response.
The supervisors agreed to inform the Jay Twp. supervisors that they are not interested in the partnership at this time, but may revisit the topic in the future.

Weisner, Gennocro medal at PIAA cross country meet

HERSHEY – The Elk County Catholic High School and St. Marys Area High School cross country teams each had a runner medal in the AA Girls' 5K race at the PIAA Finals in Hershey on Saturday. ECC's Kennedy Weisner finished second in a time of 18:52, while SMA's Adair Gennocro was third in 18:58. Angel Piccirillo, a senior at Home-Center, finished first in 18:31.

Lady Dutch volleyball takes third at D9-AA tournament

CLARION - The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch volleyball team competed in the District 9-AA volleyball championships at Clarion Area High School on Saturday.
The Lady Dutch finished tied for first place with a 2-1 record after pool play along with Bradford and Punxsutawney, necessitating a three-team playoff to decide the District 9-AA champ.

CareerLink providing more comprehensive services at new location

As of Jan. 1, 2012, legislation signed into law by Gov. Tom Corbett requiring unemployment compensation (UC) claimants to register with CareerLink to verify they are actively searching for work via the PA CareerLink system in order to continue receiving benefits will take effect. With the law's enactment, Pennsylvania will be the last state in the nation to adopt the work search stipulation.

New ornaments offered through ‘Keepsake Program’

ST. MARYS - Due to popular demand from area residents, Elk Regional Health System’s “Keepsake Program” is offering angel Christmas tree ornaments for purchase by area residents.
Through the program, several ornaments at different price points are offered for purchase in memory of a loved one. The ornaments are displayed on trees in the lobbies of Elk Regional Health Center (ERHC) and Pinecrest Manor and may be taken home afterward.

Edna M. "Snooky" Auman

Edna M. "Snooky" Auman, 88, of 352 Church St., died Friday afternoon, Nov. 4, 2011, at her residence.
She was born Aug. 1, 1923 in St. Marys, the daughter of the late Herbert and Mary Wolfel Dippold. On May 16, 1945, in Pawling, N.Y., she married James O. Auman, who survives.
She was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, Class of 1941. She had worked at Sylvania for five years and, along with her husband, owned Auman's Grocery Store from 1945 until retirement in 2009.

George J. Samick

George J. Samick 70, of 717 Evergreen Rd., St. Marys, died on Friday, Nov. 4, 2011 at Hamot Medical Center in Erie following a brief illness.
He was born May 16, 1941 in St. Marys, a son of the late George and Bertha Prechtl Samick.
On April 4, 1972, he married Sandra Copella Samick, who survives.
Mr. Samick was a lifelong resident of the area and graduated from Central High School, Class of 1959. He retired from Morgan AM&T after more than 47 years of service and was a member of Queen of the World Church.

Sharon L. Goetz

Sharon L. Goetz, 47, of 148 Lynch Rd., St. Marys, died Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011 at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh following a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born on April 20, 1964 in St. Marys, the daughter of Jerome and Mary Ann Meyer Wendel of St. Marys, who survive.
On April 22, 2011 in Williamsport, she married Robert Rudolph, who survives, and who was not only her husband, but also her caregiver.

Clarion Lady Bobcats eliminate Lady Crusaders

CLARION - The Clarion Area Lady Bobcat volleyball team eliminated the Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders from the District 9-A volleyball tournament Thursday night in a match played at the Clarion Area High School.
Clarion won the first set 25-21, took the second set 25-13 and the third set 25-19.
