Kearney offers comments on various topics

St. Marys Area School District Superintendent Ann Kearney provided numerous program and maintenance updates, as well as congratulatory comments, during this month's school board meeting.
A concert was held recently at the high school, with proceeds benefitting the Chris Forster Memorial Scholarship Fund. Students raised $800 for the fund. Kearney said she appreciated the work of Zak Brenniman, Evan Gerg and Ben Schneider for their musical entertainment at the event.

ECCOTA holds 'Refresh Rally' to win funds for renovation

RIDGWAY - The Elk County Council on the Arts (ECCOTA) held a Refresh Rally to gather support from the community for the chance to win $25,000 on Thursday. Pepsi is funding the most voted-for ideas on their Refresh website by ranking each idea by its number of votes; the idea with the most votes receives the check. Beginning at 9 a.m., ECCOTA gathered the willing fingers of passersby and encouraged them to vote for their idea via the internet at (http://www.refresheverything.com/eccotaridgway, or by texting 105979 to 73774.

Lamont H. Gray

Lamont H. Gray, 84, of River Road, Weedville, died Monday, May 23, 2011 at Pinecrest Manor after a lengthy illness.
He was born June 18, 1926, in Sterling Run, son of the late Harry W. and Edith D. (Ives) Gray.
He married Valjean (Wonderling) Gray, who survives. The couple enjoyed 51 years of marriage.

William H. Frutiger

William H. Frutiger, 80, of Penfield, died on Monday, May 23, 2011 at DuBois Nursing Home.
He was born on October 22, 1930, in Bradford. 
He was married to the late Carolyn A. (Moate) Frutiger, to whom he was married for 58 years.  She preceded him in death on May 27, 2004.
He was a Pipeliner by trade and worked hard his entire life.

Theresa L. Agosti

Theresa L. Agosti, 93, of Pine Avenue, Force, died Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at Christ the King Manor, DuBois, following an illness over the past year.
She was born Oct. 12, 1917 in Force, daughter of the late Charles and Josephine (Andresak) Michuck.
On Feb. 3, 1940, she married George A. Agosti, who preceded her in death on Feb. 24, 1972.

ST. MARYS - The long-awaited expansion and renovation of Elk Regional Health Center (ERHC) has begun, with bids recently opened and construction slated for early summer.

Additional charges withdrawn against Geci

JOHNSONBURG – Additional charges that had been filed against Ridgway resident and Ridgway Borough Police Officer Shawn Geci for unlawful taking or possession of game or wildlife have been withdrawn, and Geci also dropped an appeal of charges that were originally handed down following a conviction on Jan. 20 of operating a motorized ATV on lands leased by the Pennsylvania Game Commission and use of unlawful devices and methods to hunt wildlife.

Monitoring project expands

The Elk County Conservation District will be teaming up with the Iron Furnace Chapter of Trout Unlimited to expand the monitoring area for the Elk County Monitoring Project as long as a stipulation proposed by chairman Russ Braun is fulfilled.
"I would like something from that organization [Iron Furnace Chapter] asking us to do this and a letter of committment from them stating that they will do what they say they are going to do," Braun said. "Trust is a good thing but with $150,000, trust can only go so far."

Annunciata M. "Nancy" McGill

Annunciata M. "Nancy" McGill, 98, of 441 W. Mill Street, St. Marys, died at the home of her daughter on Sunday, May 22, 2011 after a brief illness. 
She was born Aug. 25, 1912 in St. Marys, a daughter of the late Frank and Antoinette Pultava Piccolo. 
On January 17, 1942 in Sacred Heart Church, she married the late Paul McGill. 

Gerald Edward "Red" Bressler

Gerald Edward "Red" Bressler, 65, of Ridgway, died on Wednesday, May 18, 2011.
He was born Aug. 12, 1945, son of the late Charles H. Bressler Sr. and Estella Marie Carr of Johnsonburg.
He had worked for the Johnsonburg Paper Mill for a number of years. He was an avid outdoorsman and spent his free time throughout his life hunting, fishing and trapping in the wilds of Pennsylvania.
