Polar Sweet Express draws large crowd

A large crowd was in attendance throughout Saturday at The Polar Sweet Express event held at the Franklin Center in St. Marys. The vendors present donated proceeds of the event to CAPSEA, as well as providing gift baskets for a silent auction. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., patrons perused and purchased an array of product offerings ranging food items like wine and beer, chocolate candies, kettle corn and cheese and pepperoni to home decorations, kitchen wares, spa and wellness items, jewelry, purses, clothing accessories, cosmetics, gym memberships and more.

Theodore J. "Ted" Krellner

Theodore J. "Ted" Krellner, 66, of 797 Old West Creek Road, Emporium, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011. 
He was born July 27, 1944 in St. Marys, son of Margaret Cooney Krellner of St. Marys and the late Joseph Krellner.
On January 25, 1974 in St. Mark Church, Emporium he married Annice Gorman Krellner, who survives.

Leo David Finfinger

Leo David Finfinger, 74, of Dover, Del., died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011 in his home, surrounded by his family.
Mr. Finfinger was born Jan. 9, 1937 in St. Marys, son of the late George and Margaret Sayers Finfinger. He served almost 34 years in the U.S. Air Force, both on active duty and as a reservist. Following his retirement, he worked in Civil Service at DAFB for 5 years. He was an avid fan of Caesar Rodney High School sports, as well as the Baltimore Colts.

Grace M. Eddy

Grace M. Eddy, 94, of the Ridgmont Assisted Living Facility, Ridgway, formerly of Bradford, died on Friday, Feb. 4, 2011 at Elk Regional Health Center, St. Marys.
She was born on Nov. 13, 1916 in Bradford, a daughter of the late Joseph F. and Rose M. Christiana Pettinato.
On June 13, 1938, she married Frederick E. Eddy, who died on Oct. 7, 2007.
She was a member of the St. Bernard Catholic Church, Women of the Moose and the former Women’s Homemakers Club.

Eileen E. LaFarr DiNardo

Eileen E. LaFarr DiNardo, 84, of 5538 Ridgway-Johnsonburg Rd., Johnsonburg, died Saturday evening, Feb. 5, 2011 at Pinecrest Manor in St. Marys following a lengthy illness.
She was born May 17, 1926 in Wilcox, daughter of the late Clarence and Olga Nord Johnson Sr.
She married Samuel S. LaFarr on Feb. 20, 1947 and he preceded her in death on March 22, 1989. She later married Dominic Anthony "Tony" DiNardo on July 28, 1989 and he survives.

Scarnati says fiscal restraint, tax cuts continue to be priorities

During a visit to the offices of The Daily Press on Tuesday, Brockway native and state Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati (R-Jefferson) said he will continue to focus on his longtime priorities of bringing down state budget costs and lowering taxes for Pennsylvania residents.
"I think that the biggest challenge is to balance a budget with a $4 billion deficit. Constitutionally, we (Pa.) are required to have a balanced budget," Scarnati said.

Timothy Paul Meyer, 24, of 323 S. Michael St., St. Marys, died Friday, Feb. 4, 2011 at Pinecrest Manor after a lengthy illness.
He was born April 14, 1986, in St. Marys, son of Roger Meyer of Warren and Julie Mallison Young of St. Marys, who survive.
He was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Ridgway High School. He attended basic training for the Army. He was a former employee of Pro Process in St. Marys and Alpha Sintered Metals in Ridgway.

Marie A. "Babe" Feldbauer

rie A. "Babe" Feldbauer, 86, a resident of Pinecrest Manor and formerly of 225 E. Arch St., St. Marys, died Friday, Feb. 4, 2011 at Pinecrest Manor after a lengthy illness.
She was born Oct. 5, 1924 in St. Marys, daughter of the late Louis and Theresa "Daisy" Bauer Geitner. On Sept. 11, 1943, in St. Mary's Church, she married Jerome A. "Romie" Feldbauer, who preceded her in death on May 3, 1989.
She was a lifelong area of the area and attended St. Marys parochial schools. She was a retired employee of Emporium Secondaries.

Lady Dutch avenge lone loss, beat DuBois 70-51; host Clearfield tonight at 6:30 p.m.

The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch raised their record to 15-1 on the season with a 70-51 victory over the DuBois Area Lady Beavers last night at the SMAHS Dutch Oven.
The win avenges the Lady Dutch’s only loss of the season. On Jan. 11 the Lady Beavers beat St. Marys 52-40 at DuBois.
The Lady Dutch were able to open the early 10-0 lead last night before DuBois was able to get on the board at the 3:51 mark of the first period. The Lady Dutch outscored the Lady Beavers 12-4 in the first eight minutes of play.

Lady Crusaders defeat Lady Chucks 38-24

The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders picked up their third victory of the week on Friday night, defeating the visiting Lady Chucks of Punxsutawney by a 38-24 score in a game played at the Aaron J. Straub gym at Elk Catholic. This was a District Nine League encounter and brought Elk Catholic's league record to 4-2.
"We played a terrific first half tonight, as we took a 25-8 lead," said Ken Pistner, ECCHS coach. "We didn't shoot as well in the second half, but our defense was pretty good, as we were able to protect our lead and come away with a big victory.
