Spring is a time of renewal

April 19, 2011

Some people make their resolutions at New Year's, feeling it's a fresh start. They vow to tackle all kinds of things they don't like about their current state of affairs or make pledges to themselves to improve their lives, whether it involves their health, wealth, relationships or other personal issues. I personally think New Year's has become an over-commercialized holiday like many others. It has turned into a couple-centric, party-'til-you-drop, live-while-you can event rather than a reflection on years past and a resolve to make positive changes in the years ahead.

Another milestone in college football - 400 career wins for Joe Paterno, coach of the Penn State Nittany Lions. I happened to be at the Nov. 6 game to witness this bit of history. Now, it may not be as important to our overall historical view as, say, women's suffrage or landing a man on the moon, but still, for Penn State fans and for college football, it was definitely a momentous occasion.

Volunteers add some color to downtown St. Marys

This club is a group of volunteers who spend time doing all kinds of garden-related activities, and one of those activities is beautifying downtown St. Marys during various seasons by planting and placing containers of flowers in various locations.
