Ridgway native helping with innovative approach to banking

Ridgway native Michael Aiello has used life lessons growing up here to enhance and help people in his career.
Aiello is currently a part of ERIEBANK, recently taking on a new position at the bank as a commercial lender.
He is a 2000 graduate of St. Leo School and a 2004 graduate of Elk County Catholic High School. He graduated from Mercyhurst College in 2008.
While at Mercyhurst, Aiello said he had an opportunity to work at the Northwest Savings Bank branch in Ridgway.

Florio pursues railroading career

As a locomotive engineer, freight conductor and brakeman, Daniel Florio, 36, has turned his love of railroading into a full-time career , currently working at the Wellsboro and Corning Railroad and Tioga Central Railroad in Pennsylvania.
While he has been involved with railroading on and off for the past six years, Florio recently began working full-time in the industry in February.
The former St. Marys resident had always enjoyed operating or driving anything from trucks to backhoes, even riding lawnmowers.

VanAlstine enjoying career as an economics professor

St. Marys native Jason VanAlstine says that he enjoys the dual role that a professor leads at a small school like Indiana University Kokomo (IUK), where he is expected to be an excellent teacher and create knowledge in the students’ field through research projects.
VanAlstine works at IUK as an assistant professor of economics. IUK is a small branch campus of the Indiana University System with approximately 3,000 full-time students.

Velarde pursing acting career in exotic Indonesia

Over the past few years Dave Velarde, 32, has pursued his passion for acting around the world as a budding freelance actor in Indonesia. In a bold move, the St. Marys native parted ways with his career as a successful plastics engineer to relocate to the exotic island.
Originally Velarde moved to Bali in February 2008, but relocated to Jakarta, where a majority of the country’s entertainment industry is based.

Art a lifelong passion for Frost

For the past 10 years, Linda (Zurfluh) Frost has been self-employed through her company, Linda Frost Design, performing all aspects of graphic design work, including branding and corporate identity, package design, magazine publications, print ads, Website design and photography, for a variety of companies.
In addition to her graphic design work, Frost is also a fine artist and photographer.

Bellavia has a talent for teaching

Erin (Nappe) Bellavia loves the written word, and is eager to share her enthusiasm with her students as an English teacher at St. Mary's High School in Lancaster, N.Y.
Erin is a 1992 graduate of St. Marys Area High School and a 1996 graduate of Allegheny College, where she earned a B.A. in communications and a minor in English. Although she is currently a high school English instructor, she has not always been in the teaching profession.

Stauffer cooks up tasty career

As an executive chef with Bon Appetit Management Company at the University of Pennsylvania, Donald Stauffer oversees the school’s largest dining hall, where over 10,000 meals are served per week.
The former St. Marys resident currently lives in Phoenixville and has been working at his current position for just over a year.
“I create the menus, develop recipes, order products, train employees and interact with the students at the university,” Stauffer said. “We focus on using local and sustainable foods.”

Michelle Sporner is passionate about teaching students

Michelle Sporner has become very passionate about teaching students since being appointed a faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh in the Rehab Counseling Program.
Sporner, a 2002 graduate of St. Marys Area High School, is the daughter of Mark and Leslie Sporner of St. Marys. She has a brother, Josh, a sister-in-law, Abby, and a nephew, Luke.
Following graduation from St. Marys Area, Michelle went to the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown for two years before transitioning to the main campus of the University of Pittsburgh.

LaMorte ‘designs’ new graphics business

A self-described “one-woman show” Dawn (Bricen) LaMorte of Ithaca, NY, recently opened her own business, Sunrise Studios Design, where she wears many hats, including those of a graphic designer, event coordinator, writer and marketing consultant.
“I handle bids, proposals, conduct interviews, take pictures, write stories, set up meetings, track invoices and expenses, etc.,” LaMorte described.
According to LaMorte, she dreamed of starting her own business, one which would allow her to utilize her creativity and business sense.

Brock's career influenced by love of farming

Through his current position as an IT Coordinator for Pennsylvania Certified Organic (PCO) in Spring Mills, St. Marys native Joshua Brock is able to combine his love of organic farming, database design and Macintosh computers.
"We are a USDA-accredited organic certifier with clients in nine states and the District of Columbia. A large portion of our clientele are Amish farmers and processors," Brock said.
