James Link of New York created this great owl standing at about 21 in. tall, a howling wolf at just over three feet high, a disturbed eagle measuring nearly eight feet high and Betty Boop, which originally featured the iconic character in an ankle length dress. Link is just one of the many artists participating in the Ridgway Chainsaw Carvers Rendezvous starting Saturday and continuing through next weekend.

ECCOTA debuts newly renovated gallery space

Those attending recent grand-reopening events at the Elk County Council on the Arts' newly renovated gallery space, located on Main Street in Ridgway, were highly impressed with the renovations spearheaded by ECCOTA Executive Director Abbi Peters and variety of artworks displayed.

South students have lots of love to go around

Student council members at South St. Marys Street Elementary School wanted to share the love this Valentine's Day. SSMSES teacher Mr. Michael Anderson set the goal of making 1,000 Valentines to give to elderly residents in the community. The students put their hearts into this project, and Mr. Anderson, student council members and a few volunteers helped deliver the Valentines after school on Thursday.

The Polar Sweet Express, a fun shopping event held at The Edgewood in St. Marys on Saturday to benefit Citizens Against Physical, Sexual and Emotional Abuse (CAPSEA) shelter, was packed from open to close as patrons sampled chocolate-dipped goodies, purchased a variety of items from area craftspeople and businesses, and bid on items in the silent auction. Shown above are Polar Sweet Express volunteers Mary Kay Wendel, Crystal Billie of CAPSEA and Paula Weyant, event coordinator, gather entries for the event's silent auction which took place Saturday at the Edgewood in St. Marys.
