Dutch improve to 4-0, beat Clarion 20-16

The St. Marys Area Flying Dutch football team improved to 4-0 on the season with a 20-16 victory over the Clarion Bobcats last night at Dutch Country Stadium.
The first half of last night’s Homecoming game was played in a steady rain.
The Dutch were able to score all of their points in the first half, then hold the Bobcats to only a safety in the second half.
“This was a very big win for us under adverse conditions. Our quarterback went down and our running back went down,” said Dutch coach Joe Schlimm. “I am proud of our kids for finding a way to win.

Lady Dutch volleyball handed 3-0 loss by Bradford

The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch volleyball team is now 3-3 on the season after a 3-0 loss to the Bradford Lady Owls Thursday night at the SMAHS Dutch Oven.
The Lady Owls took the first game 25-21. They won the second game 25-11 and took the third game 25-12 to win the match in three straight.

Ridgway volleyball hands ECC 3-0 defeat

The Ridgway Lady Elker volleyball team improved to 7-0 on the season as they handed the Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader squad a 3-0 loss at the ECCHS gym.
The Lady Elkers won all three games by identical 25-23 scores.
“We came off of Tuesday’s match with Kane knowing that they did not see us at our best,” said Ridgway coach Janet Redmond. “We had a very good practice last night. The girls are determined and we had a good competitive match against Elk Catholic.”

Coudersport blanks Dutch soccer 2-0

The St. Marys Area Flying Dutchmen boys' soccer team was shut out 2-0 by the Coudersport Falcons on Thursday afternoon in a match played at the St. Marys Area High School soccer field.
"We were outplayed today. We didn't play as a team like we've been in the couple recent games and it showed out there. They outplayed us the whole game. They looked like the better team," said St. Marys coach Russ Micale.

Lady Rovers nip ECC 3-2 in overtime

ST. MARYS - It took 2:25 of the overtime period for the Brockway Lady Rovers to complete their rally and go home from Benzinger Park Thursday afternoon with a 3-2 victory over the Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders in girls' varsity soccer action.
Brockway freshman Julie Esposito got in behind the ECC defense and scored the winning goal after the Lady Rovers had come from two goals down.

Lady Dutch tennis team edges Lady Crusaders 5-4

The St. Marys Area High School girls' tennis team defeated the Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders 5-4 in a match played Wednesday afternoon at St. Marys Area High School.
"We lost a tough match to our crosstown rival," said ECC coach Pete Meier. "We had some good things happen in today's match and some things that didn't work out for us."
In first singles, Amy Orr lost her match 2-6, 0-6 against ECC's Abby Meyer.
"Abby Meyer played very well in her win at first singles. Abby continues to improve. She served well, and she had a good match today," Meier said.

St. Marys and Elk Catholic cross country teams split

The Elk County Catholic cross country teams played host to the St. Marys Area, Kane and Ridgway squads Tuesday afternoon at Benzinger Park.
ECC’s Kennedy Weisner and SMA’s Adair Gennocro both broke the previous course record at today's meet. The course record was 19:25. Adair ran 18:53 and Kennedy 19:13.
In the boys’ races, St. Marys edged Elk Catholic 27-28 and Kane 21-35. Elk Catholic defeated Kane 19-36.
In the girls’ race, Elk Catholic edged St. Marys 27-28.

Crusaders rally past Johnsonburg 2-1

KERSEY – It only takes a few seconds for the momentum to shift in a soccer match, and the Elk County Catholic Crusader squad made this clear on Tuesday evening as they scored back-to-back goals within a span of 22 seconds to rally past the Johnsonburg Rams and earn a 2-1 victory.

Lady Crusader volleyball blanks Sheffield 3-0

The Elk County Catholic volleyball team raised their record to 4-1 with a 3-0 victory over the Sheffield Lady Wolverines Tuesday night at the ECCHS gym.
The Lady Crusaders won the first game 25-7, took the second game 25-14 and won the third game 25-11.
“It was good to get a win at home and it was good to get everyone in and see people in different situations,” said ECCHS coach Diane Gies.
“We’re looking forward to playing the Elkers at home on Thursday. We’re looking to give them a better match this time,” she said.

St. Marys volleyball rallies past Johnsonburg

JOHNSONBURG – St. Marys volleyball overcame a two-set deficit with wins in the last three in a 3-2 (17-25, 18-25, 25-22, 25-21, 15-12) victory over Johnsonburg Tuesday night at Johnsonburg Area High School.
St. Marys coach Erica Vogt said it was a nice comeback win for the Lady Dutch.
"We have two starters injured right now so we had to bring up a couple girls," Vogt said. "The way they played and the way the team came together was really nice to see."
Vogt said she was aided by the play of freshman Taylor Schutz who saw some time in the lineup due to the injuries.
