Dutch football Senior Night Friday

October 25, 2010

The St. Marys Area Quarterback Club is honoring the Dutch senior football players this week and at Friday night’s game at Dutch Country Stadium when they host Karns City. The senior players are: Robert Rollick, Nick DeStephano, Ryan Merritt, Kevin Hoy, Brian Eichmiller, Brad Yetzer, Kyle Wolfel, Jimmy Antonelli, Josh Rogers, John Kronenwetter, Kyle Schneider. Darren Lyon. Missing from the photo is senior manager Amy Donachy. Everyone is welcome to come to Dutch Stadium to honor these seniors. Recognition will begin at 6:15 p.m.

Dutchmen record 55-12 victory over Union Knights

The St. Marys Area Flying Dutch football team scored on their first four possessions on their way to a 55-12 victory over the Union Golden Knights on Homecoming for St. Marys Area at Dutch Country Stadium.
The Dutch were able to build a 35-0 lead at halftime as the mercy rule came into effect for the second half.
“This was a good win for us coming off last week’s loss,” said St. Marys coach Joe Schlimm.
“It was a good opportunity to get all the kids in. Now we have to get Kyle Schneider back and are looking forward to finishing out the year with Karns City,” added Schlimm.

Curwensville hands Elk Catholic 28-6 setback

The Curwensville Golden Tide football celebrated “Senior Night” by handing the Elk County Catholic Crusaders a sound 28-6 beating on Friday night in an AML game by at the Curwensville High School field.
Things started out badly for the ECCHS squad as they fumbled the opening kickoff, which led to the first score of the night for the Golden Tide. After that, it didn’t get much better as the Curwensville squad controlled the ball game for the most part.

Lady Crusaders top Sheffield in volleyball 3-0

The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders celebrated Senior Night by keeping their slate clean on Thursday as they made short work of their match with the Sheffield Lady Wolverines. The Lady Crusaders won the match by a 3-0 score as they won the opening game 25-10, took the second game 25-12, and won the third and final game by a 25-14 score in a match held at the Aaron J. Straub Gym on the ECCHS campus.

Lady Crusaders cap season with tie

ST. MARYS - The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders finished the regular season Thursday at Benzinger Park with a 1-1 tie against the visiting Brockway Lady Rovers in Upper Allegheny Valley Soccer League Central varsity action.
The tie gives ECC a record of 16-0-2 for the year, marking the team's first unbeaten season in its 13-year history and seventh straight league championship. The team is also the top seed for the upcoming District 9 Class A playoffs.

Crusader soccer hands Brockway 1-0 loss

KERSEY - The Elk County Catholic Crusader soccer team closed out their regular season Thursday night by defeating the Brockway Rovers 1-0 in a match played at Angela Huey Memorial Field in Kersey.
The two team played to a 0-0 tie in the first 30 minutes of play.
Each team had two shots on goal. Brockway had two corner kicks to Elk’s one.
Neither team took control in the first half of play, moving the ball back and forth in the middle of the field for the most part.

Smethport soccer hands Lady Dutch 6-2 setback

The Smethport Lady Hubber soccer team handed the St. Marys Area Lady Dutch squad a 6-2 loss Wednesday afternoon at the SMAHS soccer field.
Wednesday was Senior Night for the Lady Dutch, with the seniors and their parents being recognized in special halftime ceremonies.
It was also a “Pink Game,” with the Lady Dutch and Lady Hubbers showing their support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month by wearing pink uniforms and socks.
Smethport got on the board first when they scored with 25:31 left in the first half.

Lady Dutch tennis team beats Brockway 6-4

The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch tennis team handed the Brockway Lady Rovers a 6-3 loss Wednesday afternoon in a match played at Brockway.
The Lady Dutch, now 7-5 on the year, will close out their season this afternoon as they are scheduled to travel to Bradford for a 3:30 p.m. match.
At first singles, SMA’s Rachel Walker won 6-4, 5-7, 10-5 in a third-set tiebreaker over Brittany Johnson.
At second singles, Chelsea Facchine of the Lady Rovers beat Allison Shields 6-2, 6-2.
Jamie VanAlstine of the Lady Dutch defeated Cassie Foradori 6-0, 6-3 at third singles.

Dutch host Union in Homecoming game, Crusaders travel to Curwensville Friday

The St. Marys Area Flying Dutch and the Elk County Catholic football teams both return to action Friday night. The Dutchmen will host the Union Golden Knights in their Homecoming game, while the Crusaders will travel to Curwensville for a key AML South Division contest.
Union at St. Marys
Homecoming ceremonies for the Dutch will take place at halftime of this KSAC game.
The Dutchmen of coach Joe Schlimm will bring a 4-3 record into the contest.
St. Marys had defeated Clarion-Limestone 55-12, Clarion 14-7, Moniteau 46-15 and Redbank Valley 28-14.
