The final score on Thursday night's match between the Crusaders and the Cardinals may have been 4-1 in favor of DCC, but it does not reflect the effort put forth by ECC and the numerous opportunities the team was able to create throughout the game. Despite ECC's best efforts, the spectacular play of DCC keeper Markus Peterson thwarted nearly all of their chances to put points on the board.
St. Marys Area's Sarah Casey captured the District 9-AA singles championship on Wednesday as she defeated Punxsutawney's Amber Ward.
It took approximately 3 1/2 hours spread over two days for Casey to win her championship.
Casey won the first set 7-6 (9-7). Ward came back to win the second set 7-6 (7-2). The third set went to Casey by a 6-2 score.
The Elk County Catholic Crusader soccer team defeated the St. Marys Area Flying Dutchmen 1-0 on Tuesday evening in a match played at Angela Huey Memorial Field in Fox Township. It was the third meeting of the season between the crosstown rivals, with Elk having won each match.
Being down 2-0 early in Tuesday afternoon's game did little to phase the St. Marys Area Lady Dutch as they used a strong second half to rally for a 3-2 victory over the Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders in the crosstown rivals' first meeting this season, which was played at Benzinger Park.

The Elk County Catholic Crusader golf team placed second at the District 9 golf championship held at the Punxsutawney Country Club on Monday.
Ridgway won the Class AA team championship with a 337 total. Elk Catholic finished with a 352 total for second. Third place went to the Brookville team with a 353 total.
For Elk Catholic, Mitchell Struble finished with an 80 followed by Jeff Wehler 86, Drew Meyer 90 and Jonah Meyer 96.
