Crusaders defeat Blue Raiders 25-30

The Elk County Catholic cross country teams opened their home season Tuesday by playing host to the Brookville squads.
The Crusaders defeated the Raiders 25-30, while the Lady Raiders did not have enough runners to field a team.
In the girls' race, ECC's Kennedy Weisner placed first with a time of 20:08, followed by her teammate, Victoria Dippold, in second in 21:07.
Ridgway's Rachel Guyer placed third in 22:02, followed by Johnsonburg's Kathryn Polaski, who was fourth in 22:32.

Lady Crusader volleyball defeats Kane 3-0

The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader volleyball team raised their dual match record to 3-0 on the season with a 3-0 victory over the Kane Lady Wolves Tuesday night at the ECCHS gym.
Elk Catholic won the first set by a 25-20 score. They took the second set 25-17 and won the third set by a 25-12 score.
“That was a very good win against a quality Kane team,” said ECCHS coach Diane Gies. “I think our best game was our third game tonight. Our blocking at the net was outstanding.”
“Now is the time to take the next step and maintain what we’re doing,” she added.

Lady Beavers tennis team hands Lady Dutch 7-2 setback

The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch tennis team lost a 7-2 match to the DuBois Area Lady Beavers Monday afternoon in a match played at the SMAHS courts.
At first singles, Amy Orr of the Lady Dutch lost 6-7 (6-8) and 6-7 (4-7) to Kristina Torretti.
“This was a great match to watch, with two very good players battling out to see who would win,” said St. Marys coach Sue Lepovetsky.
“Aubrey Wiesner played one of her finest matches of the season in winning 6-2, 6-4,” said Lepovetsky.
Wiesner defeated Alisha Torretti at second singles.

Crusaders shut out Wolverines 18-0 Saturday

SHEFFIELD ­ — After a flat start on Saturday afternoon at Sheffield Area High School, the Elk County Catholic Crusaders used a strong second half to record an 18-0 win over the Wolverines and improve to 2-0 on the season.
While it rained periodically throughout the contest, the weather did not seem to have much of an impact on the game. ECC coach Travis Skrzypek blamed his squad’s first-half struggles on a lack of motivation throughout the week.
“When you practice flat all week and you’re flat before the game, you normally play flat,” Skrzypek said.

Lady Crusader volleyball wins County Tournament

The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader volleyball team captured the 16th annual Elk County Volleyball Tournament championship on Saturday by defeating St. Marys Area in the championship match.
Elk Catholic defeated St. Marys in two games, 25-13 and 25-15.
The Ridgway Lady Elkers took third place by defeating the Johnsonburg Ramettes by a 30-18 score in the consolation match.

Crusaders win Elk County Soccer Tournament

RIDGWAY — The Elk County Catholic Crusaders won the Elk County Soccer Tournament with a 4-0 victory over Redbank Valley Saturday at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School.
"I think the kids are happy to carry on a tradition," Elk County Catholic coach Adam Bailey said.

Lady Dutch soccer team downs Keystone 9-1

The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch soccer team improved their record to 2-0 on the season with a 9-1 victory over the Keystone Lady Panthers Saturday afternoon at the SMAHS soccer field.
The Lady Dutch jumped out to the early lead as they led 4-0 after the first 10 minutes of play.
Caley Keister scored at the 38:51 mark of the game, giving St. Marys the early 1-0 lead.
Approximately two minutes later, Kaitlyn Barackman gave the Lady Dutch the 2-0 lead at the 36:47 mark.
At the 34:44 mark, Keister scored her second goal as she scored on a direct kick, 3-0.

Dutchmen down Keystone 33-7 for first win of season

The St. Marys Area Flying Dutch football team evened their record at 1-1 on the season with a 33-7 victory over the Keystone Panthers Friday on Elementary Night at Dutch Country Stadium.
The Dutch scored in every quarter last night with the exception of the fourth on their way to the victory.
“We did a much better job this week than we did last week,” said Dutch coach Joe Schlimm. “We played as a team this week and we came in with a good attitude. But we have a long way to go.”

ECC advances to title game with 2-0 win over St. Marys

Crusaders to meet Redbank Valley today at noon, Dutch play Ridgway at 10 a.m.

FOX TWP. – The Elk County Catholic Crusaders advanced to the title game of the Elk County Boys' Soccer Tournament with a 2-0 win over St. Marys Area in a first-round game played Friday afternoon at Angela Huey Memorial Field in Fox Township.
Both keepers stayed on their toes throughout the first half, keeping the game scoreless. Elk was able to score a pair of goals in the second half to come away with the win.
"It was nice to see our team get going in the second half," said ECC coach Adam Bailey.

Elk Catholic volleyball squad downs St. Marys Area 3-0

The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader volleyball team evened their record at 1-1 on the season with a 3-0 victory over the St. Marys Area Lady Dutch Thursday night at the SMAHS “Dutch Oven”. The Lady Dutch are now 0-2 on the year.
The Lady Crusaders won the first set by a 25-14 score. They took the second set 25-23 and won the third set 25-20 to win the match.
