As part of the reorganization of the newly established Elk County Catholic School System, several administrative positions were announced Thursday afternoon during a brief press conference at the St. Marys Catholic Middle School.
"Today is a very exciting moment in the establishment of the Elk County Catholic School System," said Father Michael P. Ferrick, president of the newly formed system. "It is my pleasure to introduce to you the principals and directors of finance and advancement for our new school system. I look forward to working with these administrators and with each of you, a vital part of our school community, to move Catholic education forward here in St. Marys."
Ferrick emphasized that no decisions have been made about school buildings.
"All grades and buildings will remain the same for the 2011-2012 school year," he added. "If any changes are to be made, we will seek the input of parents, teachers and administrators first. As work is being done on next year's budget, I want to assure you that money is being used from our endowments to make sure that any tuition increase is minimal."
Sandy Florig will remain the principal of Elk County Catholic High School.
A new change is the appointment of John Schneider as the principal of St. Marys Catholic Middle School. Schneider is currently the assistant principal at ECCHS as well as a math teacher, track and field and cross country coach. His assignment at the middle school will begin July 1, 2011.
Mary Beth Schaut will remain the principal at St. Marys Catholic Elementary School.
With the appointment of Schneider as middle school principal, Ferrick announced that Ted Hanes will become the assistant principal at ECCHS. Hanes is currently an instructor at the high school.
Hanes will continue to teach part-time, as well as continue to direct the drama program, in addition to his administrative duties.
It was also announced that Mary S. Meyer has been named the Director of Advancement for the school system. As announced previously, Bob Breindel has been appointed as the Director of Finance for the new school system.
