Agatha D. “Gay” Bleggi

Agatha D. “Gay” Bleggi, 90, of 515 High Ave., St. Marys, died peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday morning, Jan. 19, 2011, at the Elk Haven Nursing Home.
She was born Oct. 8, 1920, in St. Marys, daughter of the late Frank and Lucy Weinzierl Daniels.
On Jan. 14, 1947, in the St. Mary’s Church, she married Leo L. Bleggi, who preceded her in death on June 23, 1962.
She was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, Class of 1938. She served as St. Marys Borough Tax Collector for 24 years, having been first elected in 1962. She was a member of the Queen of the World Church, a former employee of Speer Resistor and Sylvania, a volunteer at the local hospital and for the Elk County Crippled Children, delivered for Meals-on-Wheels, worked at the American Red Cross Blood Mobile, transported dialysis patients, and had been active with Girl Scouts and in community activities. She enjoyed playing cards and especially enjoyed being with family and friends.
She is survived by two daughters, Ann Bauer and her husband Wayne of St. Marys, and Jane Finn and her husband Charles of Olney, Md; two sons, Donald Bleggi and his wife Marcia of St. Marys, and Joseph Bleggi and his wife MaryAnne of St. Marys; 12 grandchildren, Aaron Bleggi and his wife Tristin, Dean Bleggi and his wife Kylie, Brian Bleggi and Chad Bleggi, Justin, Jenna and Jordan Bleggi, Cory Bauer and his wife Amanda, Randy Bauer and his wife Jennifer, Marty Bauer and his wife Kelly, and Mallory and Matthew Finn; by seven great-grandchildren, Dylan, Kyle, Ethan and Blake Bleggi, and Paityn, Annalyse and Kayden Bauer; a sister, Lucy Timm and her husband Jerry of St. Marys; a brother, Maurice Daniels and his wife Maxine of Kalamazoo, Mich.; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Francis and Bette Bleggi of St. Marys; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Marguerite Gabler, and by four brothers, Sylvester, Joseph, George and Ambrose Daniels.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Agatha D. “Gay” Bleggi will be celebrated in the Queen of the World Church on Saturday at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Michael Ferrick, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Center Street on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m.
