Altoona gymnasts hand Dutch squad 128.2-120 loss

The St. Marys Area gymnastics squad closed out their home season with a 128.2-120 loss to the Altoona squad.
“Overall the meet went pretty well. I was pretty pleased with the girls’ performances,” said St. Marys coach Irene McCandless.
Altoona’s Caitlyn Hall won the vault with a score of 9.1. Tessa Taylor of Altoona was second with an 8.35, followed by SMA’s Michaela Sorg with an 8.25. Aubree McKinney of Altoona was fourth with an 8.2. Other St. Marys scores were Cheyenne Bothun 7.7, Mackenzie Neureiter 7.8, Nicole Florio 8.0 and Abby Wittman 7.55. In exhibition, Katlyn McCandless had a 7.4 and Allison Prokop a 7.45.
Altoona swept the uneven bars with Hall taking first with an 8.725. Josie Brandt took second with a 7.975, followed by Hannah Mulhern 7.375 and Aubree McKinney 7.325. St. Marys scores were Mackenzie Neureiter 6.775, Nicole Florio 6.425, Michaela Sorg 7.025 and Abby Wittman 7.0. In exhibition, Allison Prokop had a 2.5 and Cheyenne Bothun a 4.5
Hall won the balance beam with an 8.375. SMA’s Neureiter was second with an 8.35, followed by Altoona’s Brandt 7.675 and McKinney 7.6. For St. Marys, Bothun had a 5.25, Wittman 7.25, Florio 6.725 and Sorg 6.875.
Hall won the floor exercise with an 8.575. Tied for second were Florio and Neureiter of the Dutch along with Nia Romanowicz of Altoona, all with 8.15s. Sorg and Tessa Taylor tied for third with an 8.0. Wittman was fourth with a 7.55. In exhibition for St. Marys, Bothun had a 6.1125 and Jessica Tettis a 6.8.
“We struggled a little bit on vault but did much better on bars and beam and floor this meet,” said McCandless.
In the all-around, Altoona’s Caitlyn Hall was first with a 34.775, followed by SMA’s Mackenzie Neureiter 31.075, Aubree McKinney of Altoona 30.475 and Michaela Sorg of the Dutch 30.15.
“Although Altoona was able to outscore us on every event, some of the girls were able to place in the top spots against them,” added McCandless.
St. Marys travels to DuBois for their last regular-season dual meet with DuBois on Friday at the DuBois Area High School at 6 p.m.
