Members of American Legion Post 103 held their annual Veterans Day Banquet at the Bavarian Hills on Saturday evening. According to Victor Straub, master of ceremonies for the event, 67 people were in attendance at this year's event. Straub also noted that the event was Post 103's 65th consecutive annual Veterans Day banquet.
The evening's events got underway at 6:30 p.m. with a brief welcome by Straub, invocation by Fr. Eric Vogt, and the saying of the Pledge of Allegiance, which was led by Jim Distler, Adjutant of Post 103. A special service was also held honoring all prisoners of war and those still missing in action.
After dinner, Straub told a few jokes to lighten the mood before acknowledging officials and guests who were in attendance and introducing the head table.
Rep. Matt Gabler (R-Clearfield/Elk) was the guest speaker for the evening's program.
Straub then discussed the Distinguished Service Award, which is presented by members of Post 103 to non-veterans who have distinguished themselves through giving of their time, efforts and talents in creating a better community. He noted that no such award was being presented this year.
