Andrew Merle Johnston, 93, of State Park Road, Penfield, died Sunday, July 10, 2011 at the DuBois Nursing Home after a short illness.
He was born April 29, 1918 in Penfield, son of the late Frank and Annie (Colby) Johnston.
He married Betty F. (Lowstetter), who predeceased him in 1992.
He lived all of his life in Penfield. He was a graduate of Penfield High School and served in the Army during WWII from 1943 to 1945.
He was the founder of Andy Johnston Nursery and a member of the Home Camp United Methodist Church. He enjoyed racing, hunting, snowmobiling, and sitting on his porch.
He is survived by a son, Merle L. Johnston of Penfield; a granddaughter, Mrs. Timothy (Nicki) Morgan of Penfield; 2 great-grandchildren, Samantha and Michaela; and a brother, Richard Johnston of Erie.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a grandson, Michael Johnston; and infant son, Dennis Johnston; four brothers, Earl, Blaine, Harry and Woodrow; and two sisters, Mae Brown and Belle Johnston.
Funeral services for Andrew Merle Johnston will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the Ralph M. Geer Funeral Home in Penfield.
Military honors will be accorded by the Bennetts Valley Legion Post 978 Burial Detail. Interment will take place at the Crowncrest Memorial Cemetery in Clearfield.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., and Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m., at the Ralph M. Geer Funeral Home.
