Anna Stanish

Anna Stanish, 101, of the Elk Haven Nursing Home and formerly of 706 Lincoln Ave., St. Marys, died Tuesday morning, Nov. 30, 2010 at Elk Regional Health Center following a lengthy illness.
She was born June 16, 1909 in Donaueschingen, Germany, a daughter of the late Milan and Sophie Rothmund Geci.
On Sept. 27, 1923 in Sacred Heart Church, she married Max Stanish, who preceded her in death on Aug. 21, 1970.
Mrs. Stanish was a resident of St. Marys since 1922, after coming from Germany through Ellis Island at the age of 13. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, and years ago worked at Sylvania in Emporium and also at Stackpole Carbon Company. She enjoyed playing bingo, knitting and crocheting. Most of all, she enjoyed taking care of her home and spending time with her family. 
She is survived by three sons, Joseph Stanish of St. Marys, Max Stanisch and his wife, Sally of St. Marys and Ronald Stanish and his wife, Jean of Hollywood, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Irma Stanish of St. Marys; a son-in-law, Thomas DeWald of St. Marys; 16 grandchildren; and 30 great- grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Dolores DeWald; two sons, Walter and Charles Stanish; two sisters, Sophie Schuster and Dorothy Goldschmidt; and two brothers, Milan and Lucian Geci. She was the last member of her immediate family.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Anna Stanish will be celebrated at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 325 Center St., on Friday, Dec. 3 at 9:30 a.m. with the Rev. Eric Vogt, OSB, as celebrant. Burial will follow in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home, 151 N. Michael St., on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m.
