The Elk County Historical Society will be hosting its annual Strawberry Festival on Friday, June 17 from 5-8 p.m.
The festival will be held along Center Street between Elk and Vine streets in Ridgway.
Upon arrival, participants will be given a strawberry shortcake with biscuits made fresh from Joey's Bakery; the strawberries will be provided by Valley Farm Market in Weedville.
“They are grown and picked fresh the day before,” said society director Mary Kalinowski. “And it's a very generous portion of strawberry shortcake with ice cream and whipped cream.”
Center Street will be closed off in front of the historical society's building to make room for all of the entertainment, including live music provided by Gabby Butterfuss, who will be accompanied by Ross Bish.
“They will be doing acoustical music and that will be going on throughout the festival,” Kalinowski said.
Kalinowski noted that many games and activities will be available for the children, including chalk and sand art hopscotch, bouncy ball, mini-golf and many others.
The festival will also include goodie bags, crafts, and a variety of craft, food and jewelry vendors.
"We are still looking for someone to do face painting and anybody can do it," Kalinowski said. "Whoever does it will get a free ticket to the festival; if students want to do it it will count toward community service, so if they need community service for school or Confirmation or anything like that, it will count."
The Historical Society is still accepting vendors. To register, contact Kalinowski at 776-1032 or visit the society's website at www.elkcountyhistoricalsociety.org to print an application.
