The Bucktail Council's "Scout Buddy" Get Fit Initiative began this past Wednesday with an official weigh-in held at the Council Service Center in DuBois.
The official weigh-in saw 66 scouts and parents, or 33 teams of two turn up with Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts ranging in age from six to 18 years old.
The weigh-in is just the first step in the fitness initiative, an eight-week physical activity program during which adult team members commit to 30 minutes of physical activity a day and youth participants, those under 18 years of age, to 60 minutes a day. Participants will also keep "active lifestyle logs" in documenting their individual progress throughout the program's duration. At Wednesday's weigh-in, heights and weights were recorded and entered into safekeeping until the program's end on March 14, at which point a final weigh-in will be held to determine the team with the greatest percentage of weight loss. The team showing the greatest improvement earns a grand prize of $1,000, with second and third place receiving $500 and $250, respectively.
