The Elk County Solid Waste Authority recently received a grant from the Stackpole Hall Foundation for necessary upgrades to the Community Recycling Center, which is located in the Stackpole Complex in St. Marys. The authority rents the building from North Central.
According to Bekki Titchner, recycling and solid waste coordinator, the total amount of the grant is around $8,000.
"That is for setting up the heating in [the Community Recycling Center], as well as for a digital scale," Titchner said.
Titchner explained that cement work was recently completed in the area where the digital scale for weighing recyclables will be installed.
"We're going to set the scale in so it will be flush with the floor so we can just put the pallet jack on it and weigh the bales so we have an idea of what we're sending out," Titchner said.
She added that at the same time the cement work was completed, the company, which is contracted through North Central, also fixed up the ramp leading into the center to make it safer.
