Beautification project in the works for downtown St. Marys

A beautification project to take place in downtown St. Marys was announced at a recent meeting of St. Marys City Council, with council members voting to approve a request to apply for an $8,600 grant through the Elk County Community Foundation to fund the project.
The city will apply for the grant on behalf of the newly formed St. Marys Heritage Preservation Group, which will be leading the project.
Tina Gradizzi, community economic and development coordinator for the City of St. Marys, speaking on behalf of the St. Marys Heritage Preservation Group, explained the funds would be used toward the purchase of lamppost brackets, baskets, concrete planters, trash containers, and various supplies.
"It's adding amenities to the downtown area, to the different lampposts on Center and Depot Street," Gradizzi said.
