Beimel: Volk an 'unsung hero' in St. Marys' history

Photo by Becky Polaski Pictured is the grave of Captain Charles H. Volk taken during a tour of the cemetery led by Ray Beimel last year. Volk's grave, located along the cemetery entrance way leading to the chapel, is currently buried under several inches of snow.

According to local historian Ray Beimel, one of the unsung heroes in St. Marys' history is Captain Charles H. Volk.
Beimel discussed Volk's contribution to the community while passing by his grave during a recent tour of St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. 
Volk was born in 1820 and died in 1871.
