Benedict G. "Ben" Huefner

Benedict G. "Ben" Huefner, 82, of 1515 Bucktail Rd., St. Marys, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010 at the Pinecrest Manor following a lengthy illness.
He was born May 3, 1928 in Clarion, son of the late George and Clara Huefner. He had resided in St. Marys for over 60 years and attended Clarion schools. He was a retired employee of Gerg Tool and Die, retiring in 2007 after 29 years of service.
On Dec. 27, 1950, in the Sacred Heart Church, he married Thalia "Mickie" Schatz, who survives. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Martha Mealy, Sister Techla Huefner O.S.B., and Sister Augustine Huefner O.S.B.; and by three brothers, Albert Huefner, Joseph Huefner and John Huefner. He was the last member of his immediate family.
Mr. Huefner was a member of the Sacred Heart Church, a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean War, a life member of the BPO Elks, where he served as the Elks organist for many years, and a member of the American Legion.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Benedict G. "Ben" Huefner will be celebrated in the Sacred Heart Church at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 4, with the Rev. Eric Vogt O.S.B., pastor, as celebrant.
Burial will follow in the St. Marys Cemetery.
Full military rites will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail.
Visitation will be at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m.
