WILCOX – Bailey Pretak and friends will present “Release the Butterfly,” a concert to benefit the Foundation for Ichthyosis and Related Skin Types on Saturday, Sept. 1 at 7 p.m. at the Johnsonburg Area High School Auditorium.Â
The concert is free of charge, but a free-will offering will be taken and all proceeds go to the F.I.R.S.T. foundation to fund research and publicity. This weekend’s concert will feature inspirational music by dancers and singers who will tell a story of those who have Ichthyosis.
“The concert will basically be telling stories,” Bailey Pretak said. “All of the songs being performed were selected because the lyrics share messages about what it is like to live being different.”
Pretak has spent the last few weeks collecting sentences from people who share a brief understanding of their journey with Ichthyosis. “People will get to hear what people go through (with Ichthyosis),” Pretak explained. “I used to not feel confident and hated my skin; now I am confident and fine with it.”
Pretak was born with Lamellar Ichthyosis, a rare genetic skin disorder. F.I.R.S.T. has played an important role in educating her and her family, inspiring her to become all she can be, and connecting her with others affected with the disorder who offer support.
