Betty Rae Showers

Betty Rae Showers, 84, of Benezette, died peacefully at her daughter’s home on Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2011 following a lengthy illness.
She was born Jan. 21, 1927 on Winslow Hill in Benezette. daughter of the late Charles and LaJune (Sexton) Larkin. In 1951, she married William E. Showers, who preceded her in death on Feb. 5, 2010.  
She lived all her life in Benezette and attended Benezette School. She worked at Stackpole Carbon in St. Marys. She loved her home, flowers, gardening and springtime. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends with a cup of hot tea.
She is survived by four children, Cathy (LaRue) Gavazzi of Byrnedale, Steven (Debbie) Showers of DuBois, Tammy (Daniel) McConnell of DuBois and Hope (Lou) Gerbi of North Huntingdon; nine grandchildren, Christopher and Megan Showers, Nicole (Mark) Eckert, Troy (Angie) Miller, Carrie (William) Reyes, Melissa (Andrew) Lundeen, Jon McConnell, Kelsey and Owen Gerbi; seven great-grandchildren, Chloe and Colby Eckert, Anthony and Carley Miller, Diego Araujo, and Mackenzie and Gianna Reyes; four sisters, Beverly (Ronald) Rishel of Benezette, Joanne Bienz of Fredericksburg, Va., Darlene Gaborek of Kansas City, Mo., and Judy (Harry) McGarry of Curwensville; a brother, Jack Larkin of Niceville, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Apryle T. Showers; four brothers, Charles, David, Robert and Richard Larkin; and two sisters, Marlene Murphy and Joyce Milkovich.
Funeral services for Betty Rae Showers will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at the Ralph M. Geer Funeral Home in Penfield, with Pastor Timothy Rogers officiating. Interment will be held at St. Cecelia Cemetery in Benezette.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
