Photo by Becky Polaski In lieu of spending money on a Christmas party this holiday season, the employees from The Daily Press, The Ridgway Record and The Kane Republican chose to donate the funds to the Salvation Army. Salvation Army Corps Officer Capt. Scott Harvey was presented with the donation on Wednesday afternoon during a Christmas party for the employees of all three newspapers. “[The donation] means that we’ll be able to serve more needy families in Elk County with food and other types of assistance,” Harvey said. “We have helped with gas bills. We have helped with electric and kerosene and clothing. Because of your donation we’ll be able to serve many more families.” Harvey estimated that the Salvation Army is currently assisting about 250 families throughout the County. “I’d say it is up a little because of the economy,” Harvey said of the number of families being helped by the organization. “Folks have been very generous to the Salvation Army for our kettle fundraiser. Considering the economy they’ve been very generous to us.” From left are Peg Kepler, General Manager of The Kane Republican; Jim Bauer of The Daily Press; Darlene Coder, publisher; Karen Kilhoffer of The Ridgway Record; and Salvation Army Corps Officer Capt. Scott Harvey.
