In a 4-3 decision, the St. Marys Vacancy Board voted to advertise for candidates for the empty City Council position as opposed to appointing Tom Farley, the fourth-place candidate in the November 2011 general election.
The board met on Monday evening following the City Council workshop. Those casting votes to advertise the position were council members Greg Gebauer, Nedward Jacob, Mayor Sally Geyer and Vacancy Board Chairman Bob Ordiway. Councilmen Dick Dornisch, Bob Roberts and Dan Hepner cast opposing votes.
Interested candidates are required to submit a letter of interest to the city by Feb. 15. Jacob's motion of hearing from each candidate at the next vacancy board meeting was approved, with Hepner and Roberts casting nay votes.
