Bradford Owls hand Dutchmen 51-47 D9 League loss Dutch host Punxsutawney tonight

The Bradford Owls handed the St. Marys Area Flying Dutch basketball team a 51-47 District 9 League setback last night at Bradford Area High School.
The game was tied at 37 after three quarters of play. In the final eight minutes, the Owls outscored the Dutchmen 14-10 to win the game.
“It was a bad night all the way around,” said Dutch coach Mark Guido.
“We didn’t convert our free throws,” he said, noting that his team was five of 15 from the charity stripe.
“They (Bradford) did a nice job of shutting down our scorers,” added Guido.
The Dutch offense was led by Bob Vollmer with 11 points on five field goals and a one-for-two night from the foul line. Jordan Weinzierl was next with eight points.
For Bradford, Colton Holzwarth and Tyler Wilber each had 10 points. Holzwarth scored his points on two twos and two threes. Wilber scored his points on four field goals and a two-for-two night from the foul line.
The Owls were able to take a 13-10 lead after the first eight minutes of play.
In the second quarter, Bradford outscored St. Marys 16-10, giving the Owls the 29-20 halftime lead.
St. Marys came alive in the third quarter as they outscored Bradford by a 17-8 margin to knot the game at 37 with eight minutes remaining.
In the final eight minutes of play, the Owls outscored the Dutch 14-10 to win the game 51-47.

Game notes
The Dutchmen are now 13-5 overall and 5-3 in District 9 League play.

St. Marys returns to action tonight when they play host to the Punxsutawney Chucks in a District 9 League game. Junior varsity is set for a 6 p.m. start, with the varsity scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Tonight will be Senior Night for the Dutchmen. The senior players and their parents will be recognized during pre-game ceremonies.

JVs lose
The Bradford junior varsity squad handed St. Marys a 44-25 loss.
Bradford took a 12-5 first-period lead. Both teams scored eight second-quarter points as the Owls led 20-13 at the half.
The Owls outscored the Dutch 9-2 in the third period and 15-10 in the fourth quarter, giving Bradford the 44-25 lead.

Bradford was led by Wilber with 10 and Teriberry with eight.
