Steve Brennen of Ridgway won top honors at the Ridgway Rifle Club’s long-range Varmint Rest Silhouette competition recently.
Steve established a new range record with a blistering 32 of 40 targets knocked down, including the first 10 in a row on the 900- yard-distant groundhog silhouette.
Although the rain fell and the temperature was chilly, the actual shooting conditions were excellent for much of the match, which drew 48 competitors from four states and Canada.
Other place winners were:
17-pound class: Frank Mackey 29 Open second, Nick Berteotti 22 first AAA, Mel Hoffman 21 second AAA, Rick Stanko 17 third AAA, Montie London 27 first AA, John Luchs 26 second AA, Joe Penta 25 third AA, Robert Huston 23 first A, Wayne Natcher 15 second A.
12-pound class: Gary Ritchey Jr. 19 MW, Ray Bellotti 19 Open second, Frank Bauerlein 12 first AAA, Jack Shaw 11 second AAA, Tom Brown 9 third AAA, John Armstrong 12 first AA, Rodney Hotham 12 second AA, Scott Harmic 10 first A, Gary Ritchey Sr. 8 second A, Ernie Ellery 5 third A.
This new shooting sport established by the Ridgway Rifle Club continues to have a strong following at the conclusion of its first season in existence, attracting new participants each month from near and far. Varmint Bench Rest combines long-range bench rest and silhouette, two of the most popular rifle competitions available.
