Bret P. Cooney

Bret P. Cooney, 30, of 9008 Maple St., Pittsburgh, and formerly of Wilcox, died early Thursday morning, Jan. 20, 2011 at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville as the result of a drilling rig accident that occurred Jan. 14 near Scranton.
He was born March 1, 1980 in St. Marys, the son of Charles P. and Jean Bauer Cooney, who survive.
He resided in Pittsburgh for the past two years, and also lived in Rock Springs, Wyo. for eight years. A 1998 graduate of Johnsonburg Area High School, he was a member of St. Anne's Church in Wilcox, the Wilcox Legion, Wilcox Sportsmen's Club and Rolfe Sportmen's Club. He was employed by Patterson UTI of Fort Worth, Texas and had also been employed by Union Drilling UDI of Texas and Wyoming Casing Svc. of Wyoming. He was a great father and loved motorcycles and everything about oil fields.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his fiance and life partner Amanda Serrano and two children, Damien C. and Lillian M. Cooney and one brother, Chase L. Cooney of Wilcox along with several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Bret P. Cooney will be conducted at Holy Rosary Church in Johnsonburg on Monday at 10 a.m. Officiating will be the Rev. David J. Wilson, pastor.
Interment will be at Holy Rosary Cemetery in Johnsonburg.
Friends will be received at the Anthony F. Ferragine Funeral Home, 401 Chestnut St., Johnsonburg, on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
