Brockport man killed in crash

HORTON TWP. – A Brockport man was killed as a result of a one-vehicle crash Friday evening in Horton Township. The Ridgway-based state police report investigating the crash, which occurred on June 10 at 10:15 p.m. on SR 219, 410 feet north of an unnamed street in Horton Township. According to police, Clarence L. Russell, 57, of Brockport, was traveling south on SR 219 in a 2001 Ford Ranger at a high rate of speed. The Ford left the southbound lane of travel, entering the west berm. The vehicle then impacted the guiderail and continued in a southerly direction along the guiderail. The Ford then returned to the roadway and crossed the southbound lane and both northbound lanes of travel. The vehicle then left the roadway and struck the guiderail along the east berm. The Ford rolled one time and came back up on its wheels, coming to rest against the eastern guiderail facing a southeasterly direction. Russell was transported from the scene by Ridgway Ambulance and was pronounced dead at about 11:08 p.m. at the Elk Regional Health Center. The Horton Township Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene. The collision was caused by Russell driving too fast. The Ford received severe damage.
