ST. MARYS - The Brookville Lady Raiders girls' varsity soccer team scored a 4-0 victory Tuesday afternoon at Benzinger Park over the Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders.
Junior Julie Shields scored a pair of goals for the winners. Shields scored with 3:06 remaining until halftime and then again just 10:29 from the end of the contest.
Sophomore Brenna Dworek tallied first for Brookville with 21:04 showing on the clock in the first half. Freshman Kara Wonderling upped the Lady Raiders lead to 3-0 with 15:11 to play in the game.
"This was not our best effort," said ECC coach Don Fabiano about the Lady Crusaders following the game. "Brookville played a much better overall game, winning many of the 50/50 balls at midfield, tilting the momemtum in their favor for most of the game and taking advantage of our inability to clear the ball out of our end."
The Lady Raiders, who held a 12-6 advantage in shots, controlled much of the play.
"I thought any momentum or confidence we may have picked up last week quickly faded (Tuesday)," said Fabiano.
The Lady Crusaders had evened thier overall mark at 4-4 with three straight victories.
"We had better find an answer to this and quick," said Fabiano. "The schedule doesn't get much easier."
The Lady Crusaders are in the midst of a stretch where the team has seven games in 14 days. ECC, now 4-5, will be home Thursday against Ridgway, a team that captured a 1-0 victory from the Lady Crusaders back on Sept. 14.
"I firmly believe that this team can play better than it did today," said Fabiano. "And I think down deep inside, each player also knows it."
