Brush up on bicycle safety rules

June 24, 2012

No school and warm weather bring out the bicycles, and both young and old alike should be reminded of some common-sense practices for safe riding.
David Marconi and Drew Lehman, patrolmen with the City of St. Marys Police Department, said there is one hard-and-fast rule that parents and youngsters need to remember.
"The first thing is, kids 12 and under are required by law to wear helmets," Marconi said. "We encourage everybody to wear a bike helmet, but 12 and under are required to [by state law]."
He said kids riding scooters should also wear helmets for their protection.
