Carmen A. Holmes

Carmen A. Holmes, 59, a former St. Marys resident, died unexpectedly Friday, Jan. 31, 2014 in Wales, U.K.
She was born Oct. 17, 1954 in Aibonito, Puerto Rico. She was a graduate of high school in Puerto Rico and of the University of San Juan. She was a former employee of Spherion in St. Marys.
Mrs. Holmes served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War as an M.P., was an avid bingo player, enjoyed using the computer and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
On Aug. 31, 1973, in Alabama, she married Timothy J. Holmes, who preceded her in death on Oct. 24, 2006.
She is survived by a daughter, Melissa Bush and her husband Daniel of St. Marys; three grandchildren, Nicholas Bush, Aydan Bush and Katelyn Bush; her companion, Anthony Westwood of Llandudno, Wales; her mother, Carmen Cancel-Rivera of Caquas, Puerto Rico; a sister, Olga Rodrigues of Puerto Rico; and three brothers, Jose Cancel-Rivera of Texas, Mariano Cancel-Rivera of Texas and Willie Cancel-Rivera of New Jersey.
She was preceded in death by her father, Mariano Cancel.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service for Carmen A. Holmes to be held in the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Friday, Feb. 7 at 6 p.m. with the Rev. Eric Vogt, O.S.B. officiating. Full military rites will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemens Burial Detail.
There will be no visitation.
