Chamber asking residents to ‘Save Sparky,’ help fund annual fireworks

Sparky has been “kidnapped” and needs the help of area residents in paying his ransom in order to set him free and fund the annual fireworks display.

No patriotic Fourth of July celebration would be complete without a booming fireworks display. The St. Marys Area Chamber of Commerce, which has sponsored the city’s fireworks for nearly 20 years, hopes area residents feel the same and is asking them to contribute toward the cost of the display through the ‘Save Sparky’ drive.
Sparky is the new fireworks mascot, currently visible on the Diamond in downtown St. Marys.
“We wanted to kind of change things up a bit this year. We wanted to have a mascot. So the story is, that Sparky, who’s our firework, he got kidnapped, so we need to raise money towards his ransom so that we can have our fireworks display,” said St. Marys Area Chamber of Commerce Outreach Coordinator Ashley O’Dell.
